Primary Purpose:

The Director, Global User Experience role manages a team of user experience (UX) professionals and digital strategists charged with creating an effortless experience for our customers, suppliers, and team members across our digital touchpoints. We need a customer-focused, passionate leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is ready to roll up his/her sleeves to develop industry leading experiences.
The incumbent will build a global team of researchers and designers. As the leader of our User Experience discipline, the incumbent will guide a team of UX Designers, UX Architects, UX Researchers, Digital Adoption, and Organizational Change Management professionals to:
* Run the practice of User Experience:
* Define our design standards for our portfolio of global websites including UnivarSolutions.com and ChemCentral.com, localizing website experiences as needed to meet regional needs
* Partner with Digital Product and Digital Technology teams from strategic definition, planning, architecture, through tactical execution of the digital roadmaps
* Interact with customers to understand pain points and opportunities in the customer experience and share findings with the broader organization via Voice of Customer report outs
* Drive Digital Adoption:
* Build a strategy to raise awareness of our self-service and digital commerce capabilities by identifying customer segments and key activities to drive to online behaviors such as purchasing
* Interact with Customer Service and Sales to train and educate on features
* Unify our website experience:
* Create a single experience integrated with Ecommerce that serves the needs of customers, suppliers, and employees interacting on UnivarSolutions.com
* Redesign existing online tools / experiences to fit new design standard
* Support our global marketing, HR, and communication teams with designs and experiences that support global, regional and local needs
* Establish a Center of Excellence to serve our S22 ambitions
* Represent digital team on Customer Experience, Customer Service, and Commercial process workstreams by providing User Experience services in research, design, and information architecture
* Lead the design of any digital experiences as needed in support of the broader organization
Key Deliverables:
* Product strategy: Collaborate with Product Management to influence product strategy and roadmap. Work closely with a team of Product Managers and Designers (UI/UX) to create an intuitive, cohesive and seamless global user experience across all products while working within the established Univar Solutions brand guidelines.
* Digital adoption: Lead global activities to increase awareness and accelerate adoption of digital solutions as we continue to launch capabilities in all areas of our global operation
* Voice of customer: Capture customer insights through define user research activities, provide voice of customer feedback to the broader organization to enhance the customer experience
* Define and Design effortless experiences: Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas. Work with the Engineering team to ensure technical business needs are met while maintaining a strong focus on the user experience.
* Build the team, coach and mentoring personnel and provide skillset/career guidance.
* Socialize the UX practice and communicate how it works and how we collaborate with cross functional partners
* Performs other related duties as required or requested.
Education/Experience/Training:
* Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, design, human-centered design (HCD) or human-computer interaction (HCI) or similar fields or equivalent experience.
* 10 years hands on UX and UI design experience, proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, or other comparable visual design, wire framing and prototyping tools.
* 5 years of experience designing eCommerce experiences.
* 3 years of experience creating storyboards, detailed user journeys, animated mockups of UI flows and transitions (or prototypes).
* Proficiency in the following disciplines: user research, interaction design, information architecture, visual design; exposure to and interest in growing in the others.
Requirements:
* In-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles.
* Experience designing for a variety of form factors including: iOS, Android, Tablet and desktop
* Substantial knowledge of software development processes, standards, life cycle. Able to execute at all stages of the product lifecycle from concept to final product launch.
* Proficiency in translating user needs into visual assets and in rapid prototyping and visualization tools (e.g. Axure, Invision).
* Proficiency in leveraging research and usability strategy such as discovery findings, mental models, scenarios, user journey maps, personas, debrief documentation, screeners, testing plans, task lists, low and high-fidelity prototypes, annotated wireframes, and/or clickable prototypes.
