KTRK-TV (ABC13) Assignment Desk Intern, Summer 2021

KTRK-TV is an ABC owned television station (OTVS), located in a state-of-the-art facility in Houston, Texas. ABC13 (KTRK) Houstons news leader is one of the most technically advanced television stations in the country. The station is a champion of innovation and is at the forefront of the changing media landscape. Our offices and studios are located in the Greenway Plaza area.

The internship program is designed to provide students with an educational experience that complements their academic studies. Interns will have an opportunity to virtually observe and participate in the daily work and operations of a major market, television station. This internship will require working remotely.

Responsibilities:

Some of your projects with the KTRK-TV Assignment Desk team may include:

* Assisting the assignment desk, including
* Making beat-checks
* Answering viewer tip calls
* Monitoring police and fire radios
* Gathering and vetting information to help develop stories
* Searching social media for story ideas
* Attending virtual editorial meetings

Basic Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

* Interest in pursuing a career in television/multi-media field
* Being detail-oriented and able to handle many different responsibilities at the same time
* Good news judgment and strong communication skills are essential, along with strong writing skills
* Good working knowledge with the use of social media for news gathering
* Has an attention to detail and set priorities
* Passion for news
* Flexibility and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications

* Majoring in Journalism, Digital Media, Radio, Television and Film, Mass Communications
* Taken a class in Digital Media/Journalism
* Experience shooting and editing video
* Experience working with Premier

Required Education

* Currently enrolled as a College student obtaining your undergraduate or graduate degree
* Minimum 3.0 GPA overall.

Additional Information:

* All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.
* All candidates must be at least 18 years old
* All candidates must currently be enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class at the time of application
* All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
* All candidates must be available from May through August
* All candidates must be available to work 20 hours per week during a Monday through Sunday schedule (hours and days to be determined by your supervisor, and could include nights, weekends and holidays)
* All candidates must be able to work remotely, providing their own reliable internet connection and remote work space
