Job Description

Overview

Under the direction of, and delegation by, the Medical Director, the Lab Supervisor formulates goals, recommends policy, assigns objectives, and establishes standards of practice within the Chemistry and Phlebotomy sections of the Lab. Plans, verifies, evaluates, and assures the competency of all employees performing routine and specialized technical procedures in their section(s) to assure quality of performance is maintained. Works independently with guidance available from the Medical Director, Administrative Director, and Lab Manager. Performs related work in this classification routinely and works outside this class on a temporary, occasional basis.

Responsibilities

* Supervising the technical and clerical staff assigned within the laboratory
* Coordinating the performance of routine and special procedures with available manpower, equipment and reagent/supply sources
* Monitoring turnaround times to insure timely availability of results to patient care areas
* Training of new hires
* Monitoring quality control and quality assurance metrics to insure accurate resulting and patient safety
* Maintaining skills in associated areas of responsibility
* Performing and assisting in a variety of administrative activities related to assigned clinical sections

Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology program from an accredited institution required
* 4 years of Chemistry laboratory experience required
* ASCP or equivalent certification preferred, ASCP eligibility required
* Previous supervisory experience or leadership role required
* ASCP Certification in discipline of areas of responsibilities preferred
* Satisfies education experience requirement defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)
