The Citizenship & Market Development Director for the AI Sustainability & Market Development (AISMD) team will lead 'Market Making' initiatives to drive acceleration and activation of the West Coast cities and states including California and Seattle complex opportunities focused on winning the total addressable market in strategic states, cities, and regions.
This role will serve as the lead to drive and activate economic development, societal impact and skills development across the West Region in an effort to build, cultivate, and manage relationships with government and business elites, market influencers, and strategic partners (NGOs, Associations, Thinktanks, etc.). The successful candidate will serve as the trusted advisor for customers and partners, and in doing so will identify and create a pipeline of opportunities to enable digital transformation, build coalitions, close the skills gap & enhance employability, and create societal impact to influence strategic technology solution acquisitions, and drive market dominance.
The West Region Citizenship & Market Development Director will broadly focus on five key initiatives:
1. Launch the Microsoft Accelerate initiative with customers, employability & community partners in designated cities with a focus on closing the digital divide.
2. With local SLG Client Directors and State Government Affairs, lead the Microsoft 5-State Strategy for California and Washington to grow revenue and share in these critical states. Additionally, the Citizenship & Market Development Director will improve Microsoft's influence and position in the state by catalyzing Microsoft assets and investments and building deep relationships with government influencers that enable government leaders to empower their constituents to thrive in the digital economy
3. Activate and facilitate dialogue with community stakeholders (e.g., government officials, corporate executives and boards, foundations, nonprofits, educational institutions, etc.) in designated cities aligned with the Microsoft Empathy in Action ecosystem & community engagements to create a foundation for symbolic & systemic change for Black and African American communities in the markets we live in and serve
4. Lead a coalition of strategic customer accounts with a focus on digital transformation, building coalitions (partnerships), closing the skills gap, and creating sustained societal impact leveraging market making motions to establish Microsoft's thought leadership in AI
5. Working with SLG team to establish key Government Agencies as Iconics to drive AI Leadership and Strategic Partnership.
This position reports to the Senior Director of Citizenship & Market Development and requires extensive cross-group coordination and collaboration with exceptional communication and partnership skills. The ideal candidate will be able to translate strategy into action and work directly with customers to ideate, envision, and ultimately deliver digital transformation solutions for communities throughout the priority states. They will also be able to have open and effective communication, and storytelling ability that will influence high levels of customer engagement.
The Citizenship & Market Development Director for the West Region will be required to successfully execute complex and intricate programs and will be responsible to deliver and provide ongoing community engagement support throughout the region.
Additional Responsibilities
* Partner in delivering digital skills programs in the Total Addressable Market (TAM) and define a broad growth vision across each priority city and state.
* Proactively identify, define, and champion new growth opportunities for AISMD based on market, competitive and customer insights.
* Align with CELA SGA to comply with policy and regulatory requirements in the state or city and ensure that these are tracked in close coordination.
* Create the strategy framework and content for high profile forums including Senior Leadership Team (SLT) visits, Leadership Summits, Executive Roundtables, Customer/Partner Panels, and more.
* Partner with Communications to establish frameworks and craft messages that enhance the company's reputation, and communicate corporate positions and objectives to enhance coordination with strategic government, education, and industry partners.
* Track, drive, and influence growth planning initiatives for mid- and long-term priorities in partnership with individual product teams, marketing/PR, finance, corporate strategy, business development, and other key internal stakeholders.
* Establish partnerships with industry thought leaders that can advocate and advance Microsoft's policy, political, and business priorities.

* Enjoy meeting people from all backgrounds, and have the ability to travel to engage them when travel resumes (~25%)
* Self-starter who can manage ambiguity, chart a clear course, and make tough decisions

* Extensive network across government, private sector, and academia
* Minimum 5 years' experience serving on private sector, government, or nonprofit boards/commissions
* Minimum 6 years public sector citizenship and/or government affairs experience and influencing technology policy and adoption at the national or state level
* Minimum 7 years in sales or sales support ranging across commercial enterprise, state and local government, and education
* BS or equivalent in a technical field (CS, Engineering, etc.)
