The Platform Security & Vulnerability Research team is one of the teams responsible for securing the Windows client and server operating systems, used by more than a billion customers every day, along with Microsoft devices such as Xbox, HoloLens, and Surface. This team performs security design reviews, code reviews, and penetration testing on key Windows features and devices to make sure they meet the highest possible security standards.
We are seeking a security engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with native code (C/C++), penetration testing (code audit, writing fuzzers, finding creative ways to break assumptions), a clear understanding of OS security fundamentals, solid computer science skills, and a passion for keeping Microsoft customers safe.
Primary requirements/responsibilities:
* Participate in security reviews to identify and mitigate risk in Windows and Microsoft devices, including design review, code reviews and penetration testing
* Work with feature teams building new innovative products and technologies in the next version of Windows and Devices
* Identify security vulnerabilities in a wide variety of key OS features such as network protocols, security features, and Microsoft devices (Xbox, HoloLens, Surface, etc.)
* Collaborate with other security teams across Microsoft to design and develop new security mitigations and defenses, with a focus on strategy and scalability
* Ability to learn new skills and operate in a fast-paced and changing environment
* Excellent cross group and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate the business need for security
Required Qualifications:
3+ years memory corruption exploitation experience
3+ years native code reverse engineering
2+ Kernel and userspace debugging experience on the Windows platform
The following additional experiences are favorable, but not requirements:
* Public track record of relevant security research, especially around vulnerability discovery
* Experience exploiting bugs and bypassing security mitigations in Operating Systems
* Familiarity with Microsoft Windows architecture
