Senior Underwriter

Summary

Under limited supervision, the Senior Underwriter is responsible for overseeing monthly renewal rating process for Auto, GL, and Workers Compensation coverage lines within a captive reinsured, program delivery. The Senior Underwriter works with the program account team and the Underwriting Lead to ensure the underwriting guidelines are finalize for each rating period and executed with each renewing insured.

Responsibilities

* Reviews and analyzes monthly renewal blocks without assistance.
* Identifies and obtains additional information required for proper analysis of risk, including claims and telematics data.
* Assesses exposure and determines final proposed rates, terms, and conditions of coverage in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
* Benchmarks trends in claims and exposures against broader P&C commercial insurance industry, correlates trend changes with program operational or underwriting strategy initiatives.
* Researches market conditions, profitability, initiatives and competition.
* Maintains current knowledge and makes recommendations for improvement of program processes.
* Works with the program account team and the service center teams to develop proactive strategies for communicating upcoming rate adjustments to insured population.
* Acts as a knowledgeable resource in the program products to internal stakeholders.
* Assists program account team with preparation of a variety of reports related to the departments operations as required.
* Adhoc reporting on topics such as current accounts.
* Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

* Post secondary education in insurance, business administration or related discipline
* 7+ years work experience in insurance or related field or equivalent
* Industry related professional designation (CIP or RPLU)
* Expert knowledge of insurance industry
* High level of ability to communicate both written and verbal
* Superior analytical abilities and technical knowledge
* Ability to formulate renewal and new business strategies
* Ability to solve complex problems and issues
* High focus on customer service skills
* Effective presentation skills
