This position is located at the main business and technology center for DuPont Personal Protection, a business unit based on Tyvek, Tychem, Nomex, and Kevlar brand products. This position will be an individual contributor within the applications development team, that is responsible for new product development and commercialization. The DPP business has demonstrated solid growth performance and is well positioned to support global growth in the need to provide world class protection.



Responsibilities




* The Protective Apparel Product Development Engineer shall lead the development and commercialization of innovative material structures for the Personal Protection business. Example PPE products include protective garments, gloves, and accessories. The successful individual must be able to translate ambiguous voice-of-the-customer needs into product design attributes, material selection, and process to manufacture.

* The Protective Apparel Product Development Engineer will lead complex innovation programs that will require identifying and interfacing with global supply chain and industry partners. As such, the successful individual must leverage prior flexible packaging materials and process experience, specifically development and scale up experience associated with nonwovens, films, lamination, extrusion, functional coatings, adhesives, and conversion technologies.

* The position initially will be based at our Richmond, Virginia location, but will be required to travel to conduct trials at supply chain and development partners as needed to support the global programs.

Job Qualification

Required education, skills and experiences:




* Degree in material science, chemical engineering, or related; Masters or Ph.D. degree preferred

* Minimum 10+ years of development and scale-up experience in the flexible packaging industry, specifically nonwovens, films, lamination, extrusion, functional coatings, adhesives, and conversion technologies

* Demonstrated ability to manage complex development and scale up projects with diverse supply chain partners

* Demonstrated ability to develop and patent new materials and concepts for protective barriers.

* A willingness to learn new things and a demonstrated ability to help others on their learning journey. Experience with Agile development is a plus.

* Demonstrated strong technical capability, particularly in problem solving/analytical ability

* Effective verbal and written communication skills

* Effective interpersonal skills to lead and mentor teams and to work with others who have diverse skills, education and backgrounds

* Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment

* Experience with designed experimentation and statistics such as Six-Sigma methodologies







The Protective Apparel Product Development Engineer is accountable to the Americas Technology Manger, located in Richmond, VA.
