This is a higher level in the Quality Specialist hierarchy. Under general direction and with little day-to-day supervision. A Senior Quality Specialist will have a minimum of four years practical experience, have met the requirements and have established a proven track record of performance. A Senior Quality Specialist will have proven a high level of safety, technical, and administrative knowledge, as well as performing work in a highly professional manner. To reach this level the candidate must have demonstrated their ability and must receive a recommendation from their manager. This is the leadership level of the Quality Specialist classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work , and provide leadership to others in technical areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work. Incumbents function in lead roles providing guidance to others. They are also expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently. At this level, a Senior Quality Specialist will receive little instruction and oversight by a Lead or Manager as new or unusual situations arise while they become more familiar with procedures and policies. The Senior QA Specialist works independently with minimal guidance to plan, develop and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control services with internal and external contacts for Renewable sites or projects and Activities. Collaborates with Development, Construction and Operations as required, and in some cases directs other Quality Assurance staff to perform and complete Quality tasks. Solves complex problems with minimal guidance, and acts as a resource to less experienced colleagues. This position supports the groups responsibilities including establishment of quality requirements for contracts, vendor / contractor prequalification, auditing and surveillance activities, oversight of outside QA inspection firms, and oversight of personnel in performing quality functions and or activities such as auditing and inspections of suppliers and construction work for various sites or project activities.

Responsibilities

* Work independently with minimal guidance with internal and external contacts to provide Quality Assurance and Quality Control services for Renewables sites or projects and activities and in some cases directs other Quality Assurance staff to perform and complete Quality tasks.

* Verifies equipment suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc., are performing work in accordance with the Renewable Quality Assurance Program, industry standards, codes and contractual requirements and specifications. This work is accomplished by performing surveillance / audits at supplier facilities and, or at the Renewable operating sites.

* Leads / performs auditing services and assessments of equipment suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc., quality programs including manufacturing, shop fabrication, field fabrication and operational activities. In addition will provide auditing of internal Renewable processes.

* Develop and or leads development of Quality Assurance procedures and documents to support the Quality Assurance Program

* Responsible for providing input for the continued development of the Duke Energy Renewable Quality Assurance Programs.

* Writes detailed reports of inspections and audits performed at supplier facilities and operational sites. Reviews suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc., Quality Programs for adequacy, completeness, and applicability to quality work to be performed.

* Serve on projects on an as needed basis, ensuring data integrity and compliance to business processes and procedures. May include other duties as assigned or requested.

Basic/Required Qualifications

Associates degree or technical degree/certification and four plus years of work related experience OR

HS/GED and six plus years of work related experience in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Electrical journeyman license

Certified quality engineer

Certified quality auditor

Travel 50%

Additional Preferred Qualifications

* Two years of renewable operational or utility experience

* Demonstrated working knowledge of Renewables technology, processes and procedures

* Utilization of Microsoft Suite of programs

* ISO Standards knowledge

* Ability to learn and implement new software and systems

* Large Construction project experience

* Materials Engineering/Testing experience

* Metallurgical experience

* Electro-Mechanical experience

* Civil / Structural Engineering experience

* Lead Auditor experience

* Data Analysis

* Non-destructive testing experience

Working Conditions

* The Sr Qualit Specialist will also at times works in a renewable power plant environment and includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity. The job can require climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and working in hard to reach and high places. Travel is to be expected, including both automobile and air travel to the various locations and facilities. Expected to work overtime as needed with frequent changes in work schedule .
