Description
Dow has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Research and Development (R&D) Technologist in the Road Markings group of Industrial Coatings R&D within Dow Coating Materials located in Collegeville, PA.
Dow Coating Materials (DCM) provides innovative raw material technologies that help advance the performance of paints and coatings, and offers a broad portfolio of polymeric binders, dispersants, rheology modifiers, surfactants, defoamers, and wetting agents for a wide variety of end markets.
In particular, DCM is the market leader for waterborne polymeric resins for sustainable road marking applications (e.g. for highways, local roads, intersections, crosswalks, bike lanes, and airfields), which are used to provide guidance and information to drivers and pedestrians, as well as, enhance safety in daytime and nighttime conditions. Keeping driver and pedestrian safety on track depends on road markings that are highly visible, long-lasting, and able to stand up to punishing weather and traffic conditions.
Since 1990, DCMs innovative FASTRACK Quick-Dry Technology has driven a mainstream shift from solventborne to waterborne road markings, dramatically reducing harmful volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions while demonstrating real-world performance. Current research efforts are focused on continuous innovation via development of polymer chemistries with higher durability, improved sustainability profiles, and enhanced cost effectiveness. Moreover, these market needs continue to be of great importance in light of exciting emerging developments in autonomous (self-driving) vehicles.
The Road Markings market is an attractive and strategic growth segment for DCM. The R&D Technologist will provide laboratory and field support for new technical innovations in this critical hands-on role. Further information is provided below.
