GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Software Engineer (SEI) focuses on development and delivery of software applications that meet the needs of the business. The SEI has 2+ years of experience in software development in an Enterprise-level IT organization or software development company. This position requires demonstrated ability to analyze and understand business and functional requirements and to code programs and components for internal and external desktop, web and server applications. The SEI is familiar with multi-tier application architectures and SOA.

DUTIES and ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Writes well-designed code for new and/or existing applications.
* Executes well-documented unit test plans.
* Provides regular support for existing programs and procedures (7x24).
* Assists with system level user testing, documentation, and training.
* Works alongside other engineers on the team to elevate technology and consistently apply best practices.
* Responsible for the analysis, design, development, maintenance and support of software applications.
* Represent POS when interacting with other IT groups like Networking or Security.
* Comfortable talking to the business in a language consistent with a laymans point of view and level of technical understanding.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:

* Strong experience with Linux, Bash Scripting, C and SQL is required.
* Knowledge of Java and/or ANSI C is preferred, but not required.
* Strong familiarity object-oriented programming
* Excellent skills in writing, maintaining, testing and debugging code in applicable programming languages.
* Problem solver able to come up with outside the box innovative solutions to solve problems
* Experience working in an Agile environment as it relates to SCRUM and KANBAN methodologies.
* Proactive identification and communication of programming and/or design issues.
* Team player with a passion for constantly learning new technologies and coaching others
* Knowledge and adherence to SDLC and change management best practices.
* Strong familiarity with object-oriented programming principles and clean code design patterns
* Enjoy working and thriving in a fast-paced environment
* Previous experience with POS and pin pad payment devices/services are a plus.
* Customer service driven keep the customer at the front and center
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION:

* A degree in Computer Science or demonstrated background of 3 or more years of programming experience in C, SQL and bash scripting
* Data architecture concepts a plus
* Experience working in an Agile environment and sizing and coding to user stories.
