The Raytheon Missile and Defense's (RMD) Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo and combat system equipment. The Antenna Systems Department designs some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world and is seeking motivated and driven Senior Mechanical Engineers with experience in hardware design and analysis. The position will primarily support design, development, and production focused around phased array antennas and supporting structures, power, and cooling sub-systems.
Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to:
Mechanical design, analysis and documentation of hardware and systems
Representing the Mechanical Engineering organization as a technical contact on projects
Executing as part of, or leading/managing, a small team during product development, drawing generation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation
Solving complex technical problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
Providing factory and supplier support domestically and internationally
Holding and participating in design reviews and resolving action items
Interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters requiring coordination within and between organizations
Key expectations for this position include technical problem solving, along with technical leadership in the development of new hardware. Senior engineers will be required to make sound technical decisions, provide supervision and leadership to junior engineers and manage to cost and schedule requirements of assigned tasks.
This position will require interfacing with other mechanical engineers, designers, and structural / thermal analysts, as well as engineers from other disciplines, along with line and program management and Customers.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance This position may be filled at the G09 or G10 level.
Required:
* B.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
* 6+ years mechanical engineering design experience
* Experience with electronic packaging, including antenna or pedestal design
* Experience using CAD software, preferably CREO (PRO/ENGINEER)
Desired:
* M.S in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree
* 8+ years mechanical engineering design experience
* Ability to creatively apply mechanical engineering knowledge to efficiently and creatively solve complex design problems, and make sound and rationale data driven technical decisions
* Experience with radar systems
* Working knowledge of military and commercial design, materials, and process specifications
* Efficient and disciplined process execution behaviors coupled with agility of thought and knowledge of how to appropriately tailor processes to fit the task
* Strong presentation and technical writing skills
* Experience with technical and cost proposal development
* Experience leading other junior engineers within an integrated product team environment
* Experience successfully managing to cost and schedule requirements for assigned tasks
* Ability to multi-task and successfully manage multiple activities at any given time
* Ability to interact well with other team members across various disciplines, including other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, supply chain, and program management
* Ability to identify and communicate technical issues that may impact cost, schedule, or other aspects of product design
* Strong analytical design and drawing skills including geometric tolerance and dimensioning and associated tolerance analysis
* Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines
* Work performed without appreciable direction and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
* Experience in technical risk management
* Understanding of the product development lifecycle models and program lifecycle modes
* Qualified Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist or equivalent
* Master's degree preferred
