OVERVIEW:
Virent, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of MPC, is seeking an intrinsically motivated, team-oriented individual to fill our Plant Technician position in our Madison, WI advanced biofuels facility. The role involves operating Virents demonstration plant in support of engineering and scale-up efforts supporting the Companys technology of biomass conversion into fuels and chemicals. The position will complete operational tasks in the control room as well as hands on in the plant to achieve operating targets. This position works a 12-hour, four days on/four days off shift schedule, alternating between day and night shift typically on a monthly basis. This assignment will help the candidate build excellence in operational skills for future application as Virent continues to advance research and development towards a first commercial plant.
No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Safely operate plant equipment.
2. Perform maintenance, repair, and modifications on plant equipment.
3. Execute the workplan for the plant as planned by research and engineering staff to meet experimental goals and production targets, including.
4. Perform day-to-day operational duties of the plant, including start-up, normal operation, shutdown, emergency operation, and maintenance.
5. Develop working knowledge of all chemicals handled and used, including purpose, hazards, safe handling, and proper disposal.
6. Develop working knowledge of all plant equipment and utilities, including functions and hazards, and processes and procedures that apply to them.
7. Complete assigned training, including safety, orientation, job specific, and refresher training, on time.
8. Maintain all workspaces to established cleanliness and professional appearance standards.
MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS:
* Completed associate's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or Science-related discipline from an accredited institution OR high school diploma/GED with 2 years of related experience in lab operations, plant operations, or repair/maintenance may substitute.
* Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Three (3) or more years of experience in engineering, scientific research, or plant operation.
* Experience with leading shift of other Plant Technicians or similar employees in plant operations and projects.
* Experience with developing operational practices and documentation for plant applications.
