Lead Counsel, Global Privacy Compliance

Job Description

Facebook is seeking a talented Global Privacy Compliance attorney to advise on the design and operation of an industry-leading enterprise privacy compliance program. The team member will provide legal guidance related to privacy compliance efforts by driving the creation of key pillars of the program, including developing policies and procedures, participating in governance groups, designing, sustaining, monitoring and reporting on privacy controls/safeguards, partnering in privacy risk assessments, driving the resolution of privacy risks/issues, including by escalating key issues to leadership, cross-functional partners and governance bodies, setting privacy policy, and enforcing privacy requirements. A successful candidate will be prepared to create and maintain the new Privacy Program and continue the development of a framework for analyzing global privacy regulations as well as to advise on, document, and oversee implementation of necessary changes to Facebooks Privacy Program in order to comply with related requirements.

Lead Counsel, Global Privacy Compliance Responsibilities

* Manage Legals support of key aspects of our privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs and applicable regulatory frameworks

* Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in new areas of global data use and protection laws, advise about the impact of the same on Facebooks business, and drive strategies to facilitate compliance

* Provide legal advice and day-to-day support to the to the Privacy Organization

* Investigate and advise on potential privacy issues related to corporate governance and external reporting

* Analyze global privacy legal requirements and oversee the design and implementation of privacy controls as part of the Privacy Program

* Coordinate with globally-distributed legal compliance groups to ensure integration of the Privacy Program on a global scale

* Provide focused and pragmatic legal advice on Privacy Program controls testing and management of privacy compliance

* Support members of the legal, business, and policy teams on privacy-related legal matters, including in areas related to partnerships, integrations, and other business development opportunities

* Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with stakeholders across Facebook's business including policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments

Minimum Qualifications

* J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one U.S. state bar

* 5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience

* Experience with compliance, regulatory, or product counseling

* Experience using business judgment and with client counseling

* Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience prioritizing work and providing advice under tight deadlines

* Experience with global privacy laws, compliance, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies, and experience working with international teams

* Demonstrated expertise in privacy and data issues arising in one or more privacy areas such as HR, security, advertising, B2B products, or privacy program implementation/management
