The Facebook Connectivity team builds the bleeding edge technology that will allow Facebook to connect our next billion users. Through the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), Facebook has partnered with over 500 global technology and telecom leaders to design, build, and deploy new telecom technologies. Our projects are aimed at delivering connectivity to people without access to the internet and increasing connectivity for people with access to existing, but inadequate network infrastructures. The Connectivity Deployment team works closely with cross-functional partners to support engineering, testing, and deployments across the globe. Network Connectivity Engineers are responsible for designing and implementing connectivity solutions in partnership with OEMs and network operators. You will interface with and direct a team of contractors to execute network changes and implement new operational processes. After lab rollout is complete this role will provide ongoing support for labs and testbeds but will also branch out to support FBC and TIP initiatives as appropriate for skill set and interests. This position is full time.
Network Engineer, Connectivity Responsibilities
* Work cross functionally with partners, project management, network, software, and hardware engineers to support lab testing and operations of new approaches to connectivity challenges
* Work with contractors and MSP to implement new network design
* Create or define dashboards and instrumentation, SLA measurement and adherence, automation/scripting, documentation, and runbook creation
* Proactively define and maintain technical and training documentation
* Develop automation and tooling as needed to support efficient lab operations
* Oversee deployment and operation of testbeds for new optical and wireless connectivity solutions
Minimum Qualifications
* Comprehensive TCP/IP network design and implementation experience
* Comprehensive knowledge of network protocols (BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, QOS)
* Experience with IPv4 and IPv6
* Experience with configuring firewalls
* Experience with cloud deployments, AWS, Azure, GCP
* Experience in lab, operator, or data center networks
* Proficiency in Linux
* Experience in at least one programming language like Python, Perl, C/C++, or Go for developing automation software or tooling
* Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and deliver against deadlines
* Experience working across time zones, with remote teams and cultures
Preferred Qualifications
* Automation software experience and familiarity
* Start-up or technical infrastructure experience
* CCNP, JNCIP or equivalent certification
* AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification
* Experience working with and troubleshooting wireless networks and wireless telecom equipment to include 3G/4G cellular, Wi-Fi, and microwave
* Working knowledge of 3GPP specifications, specifically 2G GSM, 3G UMTS, 4G LTE
* Experience with Cisco ISE
* VPN solutions DMVPN and Flex VPN
* Experience with load balancers like nginx, Citrix Netscaler ADC
* Database knowledge with SQL or equivalent
