What Tax contributes to Cardinal Health

The Cardinal Health Tax Department is responsible for the design, implementation and defense of tax strategies and positions. It also records and reports tax expense in accordance with GAAP and SEC reporting requirements. Accountable for the tax due diligence of corporate transactions and preparation of tax compliance returns and reports.

Accountabilities

* This role will have a global focus and assist in setting and executing on strategies across the full range of dispute resolution activities, from audits, to MAPs/APAs/rulings, to risk-management insight in planning and implementation. Responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of federal and foreign tax controversy matters.

* The candidate should also possess historical success with negotiating a wide range of corporate tax issues and audit procedural matters.

* Demonstrates knowledge in broad area of tax principles that may be relevant in the context of tax controversy, including U.S. federal, U.S. international and local country tax principles. In addition, the Director will have a strong understanding of relevant changes in U.S. tax law as it relates to the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (U.S. Tax Reform).

* Develops and implements tax controversy strategies to effectively defend tax positions taken and minimize controversy related adjustments.

* Lead the analysis of M&A transactions for areas of tax risk and opportunities, as well as optimal tax structuring.

* Demonstrates tax accounting knowledge of GAAP and SEC tax recording and reporting requirements, as it relates to the quantitative modeling of the implications of tax adjustments sustained on audit, and correlative effects on tax attributes.

* Performs detailed tax research and analysis to understand both facts and tax technical implications of issues under controversy.

* Develops effective working relationships with tax authority representatives.

* Review transfer pricing studies as prepared by transfer pricing team. Reply to transfer pricing audits or inquiries as needed.

* Work with Tax department M&A team on acquired companies, review uncertain tax positions with tax accounting team and implement post acquisition mitigation measures.

* Work with TP team on APA reporting process and review for consistency in tax audits.

* Draft memorandum for audit positions and related financial statement impact.

* Provide strategic consult to local tax teams and senior members of tax team.

* Ability to partner with business and Tax department colleagues to affirmatively mitigate tax risk, be it on existing or proposed business structures, before tax controversies arise.

* Effectively lead and collaborate with internal and external tax resources to successfully complete assigned projects. Demonstrate ability to lead not only team members but peers inside and outside Tax department to ensure timely and effective responses to tax authorities, as required.

Qualifications

* Bachelors and Advanced degree in business related field, or equivalent work experience

* 10+ years experience in related field

* Prior supervisory experience

* Big 4 Public Accounting experience combined with experience in a corporate tax setting a plus

* CPA strongly preferred
