This is a night shift position that will work three 12 hour shifts per week (36 hour work week).
JOB SUMMARY
The ECMO Specialist RN works effectively with members of the healthcare team in the provision of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). Responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the ECMO program. The scope of patient care includes neonatal to adult patients. Will assist with liaison relationship between Nursing, Department Managers and Directors, Physicians and Hospital Administration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Manages ECMO therapy during regularly scheduled shifts.
Routinely primes techno circuits and facilitates the initiation of ECMO therapy. Maintain circuit ready for circuit change for emergency use at all times.
Provides assistance to patients, families, medical and clinical staff regarding an immediate and long-term needs of patients requiring these advanced therapies
Able to work with all members of the healthcare team to develop and implement an effective care plan.
Assists with development and maintaining of policies, procedures and clinical standards of care related to the ECMO program.
Keeps abreast of new developments/technologies in critical care. Considers these when developing care plans in order to achieve best clinical outcome.
Identifies physical and psycho-social patterns of illness. Able to share this knowledge with other members of the health care team in developing the plan of care.
Assists in development of quality initiatives to audit outcomes and patient follow-up.
Participates in ECMO program education, outreach, and research activities.
Seeks opportunities to develop, present, and evaluate educational programs within the community.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Advanced understanding of Health Care modalities, therapies, equipment and medications.
Must be able to read, write and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
Must have critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION - Associate's
MAJOR - Nursing
EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
 Basic; Life Support (BLS)
 ACLS; (ACLS): Must have BLS and ACLS.
 Registered; Nurse (RN): Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nursing.
