The Opportunity
The Fellow, Application Engineer is a critical role in our engineering practice focused on horizontally preparing teams for building, testing, and deploying stable, scalable, and reliable code for all Ally digital applications. Collaborating with multiple internal teams across disparate groups to resolve application reliability issues. Crafting and maintaining our digital applications in a Cloud Computing environment using AWS, Apigee, Kubernetes, and Docker. Serving as a liaison between our enterprise technology organization and application teams to address performance issues or problem analysis and see them through to resolution. Leeds and coordinates Infrastructure as code for digital applications from a technology perspective, ensuring that infrastructure as code development activities are consistent with the direction set by best practices and standards at Ally. Also, an escalation point of contact for application support issues, and is required to be able to handle challenging issues related to supporting various applications and systems. Participation in an active on-call rotation is vital to maintaining acceptable levels of service delivery for all Ally digital applications.

The Work Itself
* Partner with development teams to ensure proper knowledge and implementation of CI/CD processes and tools
* Partner with Enterprise DevOps team to ensure CI/CD tools and processers meet development team requirements
* Continuously tune and validate quality of current tools for network, system monitoring, client session monitoring, and log file parsing. Partner with enterprise tool team to ensure a strong toolkit is in place and properly implemented
* Develop and maintain processes for rapidly onboarding new developers onto our development stack including proper Git repository access, CI/CD tool access, monitoring tool access, proxy access, etc.
* Help cultivate a developer-centric engineering culture by identifying and lowering hurdles which get in the way of efficient and enjoyable coding practices
The Skills You Bring
Required Technical Skills
* Expert-level experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, OpenShift, Crucible, Maven, etc.
* Expert-level experience with development tools such as source control (Git) and industry standard IDEs (VS Code, Eclipse, Sublime, Xcode, etc.)
* Expert-level understanding of administration of web servers such as NGINX, JBoss, Apache, Node.js, etc.
* Expert-level understanding of the full application lifecycle across various web and native mobile applications and how the pieces of the stack communicate with each other
* Extensive hands-on experience with web application monitoring tools (Splunk, AppDynamics, HTTPWatch, UI-session replay tools, Apteligent, Firebase, etc.)
* Ability to write shell scripts and a passion for automation
* A true passion for developer experience, as evidenced by an obsessive developer focus, as well as an ability to render complexity down to its truest essence
* Mid-level experience with serverless development and operations
* Strong expertise in large scale distributed system designs
* Strong experience in successful delivery of high-quality production services and systems
* 7+ years of experience and a degree in a technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Technical Skills
* Native mobile application CI/CD processes and tools
* Amazon Web Services (AWS) and experience integrating CI/CD processes with AWS
* Experience with Atlassian suite of tools such as Bitbucket, Jira, Confluence, etc.
* Experience with Spring and/or JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Ember, Vue.js, etc.)

* Excellent communication skills at all levels, from team members to senior management
* Must have the ability to work in a team within an Agile operating model
