Gardner Cryogenics, a division of Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a world-leading manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Quality Assurance Engineer at its Bethlehem, PA facility.

This individual is accountable to monitor, analyze, and improve product performance relative to customer requirements; through data collection, process and procedure control, risk analysis, and defect reduction. This person will ensure alignment and oversight in the application of ASME, DOT, ISO, and numerous other regulatory requirements to our manufacturing and inspection processes, as prioritized by business needs and product forecasts.

The Engineer is encouraged to maintain a leadership role in driving compliance and improvement of processes, assist in audits, welder training, and certifications, lead root cause investigations, and assist in the development of robust inspection plans for the fabrication of pressure vessels and manufactured components.

The candidate will approach his/her role with a data-driven demeanor, using quality assurance world-class practices to drive measurable outcomes tied to business goals.

Nature and Scope

A high level of influence and interpersonal skills is needed in order to achieve successful outcomes. It requires communication and collaboration with individuals at all levels of the organization, including the most senior leadership as well as shop floor staff. The role requires in-depth proven understanding and experience in inspection and testing techniques for pressure vessels, piping and relief devices, welding, and in-depth ASME and PED, TPED code knowledge. This role will maintain close alignment with the Gardner Cryogenics Manufacturing, Design, and Mechanical Engineering teams, as well as external vendors, Authorized Inspectors, and regulatory agency representatives. Conjunction with strategic and tactical business priorities is encouraged. He/she will report directly to the Quality Assurance Lead.

Principal Accountabilities

* Demonstrate safety leadership and safety accountability
* Acquire manufacturing, planning, project management, and engineering recommendations to ensure alignment of QA priorities and get results.
* Demonstrate world-class engagement in all customer activities and interfaces.
* Ensure timely and urgent resolution of QA actions required to support production targets.
* Ensure compliance to all relevant aspects of ASME Code Section VIII, Divisions 1 & 2, Section XII, Section V (NDE), and IX (Welding)
* Ensures that all standards used for ASME quality control requirements are kept current. Ensures any relevant ASME changes or updates are promptly cascaded and evaluated for impact.
* Ensures quality processes exist to demonstrate compliance to design, drawings, specifications, and calculations as they pertain to ASME, PED, TPED, DOT, and customer requirements.
* Ensure processes are in place for certification of welders, administration of eye examinations, and oversight of NDT.
* Training and coaching related to compliance, codes, and specifications for all involved parties.
* Co-Lead creation of inspection test plans, for pressure vessel fabrication, in support of the Engineering department.
* Support QA initiatives to ensure critical processes are defined and led through controlled documentation
* Conduct internal audits and support external audits
* Lead Gardners ASME Steering Team
* Conduct select critical inspections and serve as the liaison with Authorized Inspectors, vendors, and other regulatory representatives.
* Engage in the disposition and investigation of internal deviations and non-conformances
* Facilitate root cause investigations and corrective actions pertaining to internal and external non-conformances, with the use of power scale, failure mode analysis, and mistake-proofing applications.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

* 10 years+ of confirmed expertise in a manufacturing environment with a tried understanding of ASME related to the fabrication and inspection i.e., pressure vessels and metal components.
* Bachelors degree in an industrial or mechanical engineering field preferred.
* Knowledge and understanding of statutory/regulatory inspection requirements.
* Proven problem solving and root cause analysis concepts and methodologies.
* Proven ability to use Quality Assurance principles to impact business results
* SAP experience
* Lean Six Sigma training or certification a plus
* Working across all levels to influence key partners and lead through influence. Strong interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation ability.
* High energy in a sophisticated and exciting environment, desire to learn new skills, and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
