The Chemist position in our General Industrial division that is responsible for a variety of exciting activities related to developing new technologies and new platforms in our high performance coatings.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
This employees main responsibility will be the lead the Powder Coating groups metallic effect matching and bonding effort, this will include:
o Knowledge of metallic effect pigments and their interaction with base colors to create custom color matches to support customers in the General Industrial market.
o The ability to run and troubleshoot bonding equipment including Canister Bonding systems to create the bonded products while meeting commercial timelines
o Interface with bonding tollers and internal production facilities to ensure quality bonding of the products is achieved.
o Can function as a subject matter expert and teacher, who can standardize metallic effect matching work by individual contributors in other lab locations as needed.
Designs and executes experiments, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations
Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of lab work and providing written updates and presentation of technical materials.
Communicates with other departments/functions and has a wide network of resources and knows who their resources are.
Function under limited supervision and be able to independently design experiments, write reports and draws accurate conclusions with limited review.
Accountable for contributing solutions to moderately complex projects.
Communicate detailed ideas concisely through written communication by writing technical reports.
Comply with and displays knowledge of all company safety policies, security policies and housekeeping standards/requirements.
Travel for customer support (new product launches and production line trouble shooting).
Train or mentor new or lower level chemists and technicians.
Adheres to quality standards in accordance with the Global Business Management System.
Perform basic paint making processes, meets manufactures specifications
Perform basic coating formulations, applications and physical/performance testing methods
Provide timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development
Application and troubleshooting of general industrial coatings
Additional duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. FORMAL EDUCATION:
a. Required:
Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each

2. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
o 3 years of coatings-specific industry experience
o Formulation experience with powder coating products
o Formulation experience with coatings for plastics

Preferred:
o 3-5 years of powder coating specific industry experience developing Epoxy, PET, TGIC-HAA, Hybrid, and Urethane products
o 3-5 years of lab and/or production scale metallic effects bonding and product color matching.

3. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis.
Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.
May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
Work surfaces may include concrete.
Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
Some travel to other locations (internal production support and external customers).
Valid drivers license.

4. TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
a. Required:
Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
Excellent organization and planning skills
Team- oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment
Experience working with MS Office
Good project management skills
Familiarity with application and troubleshooting of industrial coatings.
Practical understanding of spectral measurement data
Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
Math knowledge
Analytical chemistry and the ability to extend it beyond the realm of coatings
Proven problem-solving and decision-making ability.
Ability to adapt and change quickly in response to new situations/demands.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Design of Experiment

b. Preferred
Proficient in statistics and data analysis.
Creative thinking
1-2 years of professional coatings formulation experience or a combination of academic lab and or Internships /Co-op experience, with experience in Powder coating
Strong color matching skills in solid shade and effect coatings

5. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10%
Basic Requirements

Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each
Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
3 years of coatings-specific industry experience
Formulation experience with powder coating products
Formulation experience with coatings for plastics
