About this opportunity ....
A Product Technician at Ross drives management and execution of samples and design/product development for product area in partnership with Merchants, Sample team and Sourcing if applicable. This position ensures that the product in assigned areas is consistent with Merchants approved or agreed upon fit, grading and construction standards/guidelines as established for area and/or vendor. Trains, develops, and directs the workload of direct report to provide support and technical expertise to Merchant and Sample team partners.
Oversee Technical Work for Product Area :
* Advise, provide, and manage product details on sampling and production to ensure that Merchant's vision for product is achieved
* Collaborate with departmental leaders on vendor scorecarding to assess results, and if requested, provide Merchants with proposed solutions to quality and/or fit concerns
* Collaborate with departmental leadership on comprehensive competitive and/or internal analysis of fit, grading and construction guidelines to support Merchants
* Proactively partner with manager and Fashion Office to advise Merchants on any technical considerations/concerns resulting from current trend information
Technical Training :
* Create and update course materials and other training content, facilitate ongoing trainings as needed, and lead follow-up support and assessment of training needs for Merchant and Sample team members
* Train Sample team members to support the Merchants with the technical approval process of their product area with focus on fit and construction, prep for fit sessions, sample evaluation, and communications to vendors on adjustments required
* Train and guide Merchants and the Sample team members on using live model and fit forms to support the review of product as applicable
Manage Technical Design Process for Direct Product (as applicable):
* Oversee the fit, quality and construction of product throughout the development life cycle, from inspiration to tech pack through production
* Ensure product integrity through consistent size and fit standards, grade rules, construction and quality standards, blocks and tech pack templates
* Partner with Merchant and Sourcing teams on product direction and fit intent; develop tech packs with clear garment construction and fit direction to vendors and/or review vendor submissions.
Onboard, Train and Develop Direct Report (as applicable):
* Train direct report including providing ongoing development to keep technical knowledge and skills current
* Oversee direct report's workload, effectively assess strengths, and allocate workload accordingly
* Adapt management style to direct report's skill level and identify areas for development and training
* Consistently provide in the moment feedback, both positive and constructive
* Maintain a calm demeanor under pressure, leads by example
Who you are ...
* You have a Bachelor's Degree in Technical Design, Production Management, Product Management preferred
* You have 5+ years of technical design, product development, production management or equivalent experience
* You have the ability to train and mentor
* You have experience in leading fit session and the ability to communicate corrections
* You have in depth knowledge of materials, construction and production
* You have excellent verbal and written communication skills
