Basic Function
The APS Central Planner integrates and synchronizes supply and demand requirements with manufacturing and supply chain capability into an economic optimal operating plan for use by Manufacturing, Raw Material Supply, Supply Chain, Sales and Business Management to maximize variable margins for the assigned business area. They also Manage the overall supply network for a specific APS product line coordinating production and the customer fulfillment functions such as the RDC Inventory Planners and Account Specialists. Ensures that production is transferred to supply points to meet customer demands and communicates production issues to the distribution centers. The goal is to provide support in delivering product to the customer in the most cost effective manner possible. Import transactions and forecasting from other global regions may also be required.
Roles & Responsibilities
* Develops and manages the short term customer demand plan used by Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales, Raw Material Supply, Business and Marketing to efficiently meet business objectives for the assigned business
* Forecasts and plans ahead to accommodate customer shipments utilizing appropriate inventory planning and optimum transportation modes.
* Schedules assigned production sites based on demand plan, existing sales orders, forecast, and line loading.
* Responds in a timely manner to new/changing customer demand and production supply issues
* Manages Made To Order customer requests and adjusts midterm schedule appropriately
* Effectively communicates with business team with regard to material production, inventory availability, and distressed inventory
* Identifies key demand and supply risks and develops / implements contingency plans.
* Monitors and evaluates optimal vs plan vs. actual performance.
* Leads supply and demand planning meeting for assigned business area(s).
* Monitors rail car dwell time at RDCs and Tollers and increase turns to ensure efficient use of the rail car fleet.
* Manages suboptimal freight and challenges its necessity by the customer through Marketing
* Manages inventory plans across the supply network seeking opportunities to reduce cost of order delivery
* Coordinates with the business, manufacturing, raw material supply, and supply chain partners for optimal asset plan effectiveness and establishing priorities for improvement.
Min. Qualifications
Bachelor degree required (Supply Chain, Engineering or Technical preferred). Supply and demand planning software, SAP and Analysis for Excel experience preferred.
Minimum 4 years of experience involving manufacturing, business planning and analysis, supply chain, business management or sales.
Excellent communication skills across functional areas to ensure understanding, alignment and synchronization of the operating plan.
Must be highly motivated with strong problem solving skills to influence and impact decisions, with minimal direct supervision.
Ability to incorporate systemic thinking into the detailed responsibilities associated with supply and demand planning, understanding and utilizing impacts and opportunities across the entire system.
