HighPoint - Sumner Regional Medical Center
Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Performs assigned Unit Secretary and Nurse Tech duties in the Women's Services area
Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.
Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
Passes instruments to physician during surgery. Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory.
Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN, including monitoring vital signs.
Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living, including but not limited to bathing, grooming, eating, and ambulation.
Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
Documents as required subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary.
Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked, clean and orderly.
Greets patients and visitors. Answers, screens and routes telephone calls. Calls codes, pages and overhead announcements as requested.
Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies
Assist RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
Graduate of a Program in Discipline (Surgical Technician) - Preferred
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Computer proficiency required.

Certifications:
BLS certification from approved American Heart Association training center required to be current upon hire.

Licenses:
Certification is required for experienced surgical technologist upon hire unless qualifications are met under the TCA Section 68-57-102 grandfather clause effective 7/1/2006. New Graduate Surgical Technologists are required to obtain certification within 6 months of employment.

6 months Surgical Tech experience - Preferred
