The Cognitive/Machine Learning Lead leverages large sets of structured and unstructured data to develop tactical and strategic insights. The Cognitive/Machine Learning Lead works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

Responsibilities

You will have the opportunity to work on challenging NLP projects with the goal to improve the everyday life of our members. As Lead, you may direct a small team developing NLP applications. You will collaborate with data scientist, analyst, business and IT teams to design and implement NLP application services using Python, Azure services like CognitiveAI, and other open-source software available for handling unstructured and streaming data. You will be expected to lead by example, to develop plans, designs, code, and documentation, and perform code reviews, testing, and debugging.

Some examples of how we add capabilities to Humana data science work include:

* Analyzing customer calls using NLP to extract features for use in Machine Learning and predictive models.

* Performing OCR and NLP on images to match faxed medical records with patient authorizations to deliver more effective healthcare.

* Using BERT based language embedding technologies to improve the performance of NLP models.

* Deploying NLP models that analyze social worker, nurse, and physician notes to find evidence of social needs, to feed predictive models used to rank patients most likely to exhibit conditions like food insecurity.

Job Description

* Design and build secure NLP applications on Azure, using best practices in NLP, security, and Azure services

* Understand available data, both structured and unstructured formats, and implement effective ways for processing in the cloud, including lambda architectures and serverless computing as appropriate.

* Comfortable working in a fast-paced agile environment, closely interacting with business and some of industrys best software engineers, machine learning scientists, data engineers, and data scientists

* Mentor junior team members, to help grow and mature the overall skillset of the team.

Role Essentials

* BS in Computer Science or related field

* 5+ years of experience working on cloud platforms (prefer Azure).

* 3+ years of experience with NLP applications and techniques.

* 8+ years of software development experience, with significant Python experience

* Solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms

* Ability to learn new technologies and comprehend unfamiliar data domains and business processes quickly

Role Desirables

* Open-source contributions and portfolio of shipped code at GitHub

* Familiar with medical/healthcare applications, terminologies, and data

* Prior experience designing and building NLP APIs and services for data

* Passion projects with NLP/ML/AI, for example computer vision, image processing, NLP applications
