Job Description:
This position is responsible for creating and deploying predictive and prescriptive analytics models optimize Caterpillar's enterprise Total Cost of Supply (TCOS). TCOS represents over $20B+ in expense giving this position the ability to drive significant value.
The Lead Data Scientist will prototype, develop, iterate, test, and deploy predictive and prescriptive models to production, resolving problems independently to meet project deadlines. A fast learner with excellent communication skills, the incumbent effectively collaborates with diverse teams (including other data scientists, procurement leaders, platform/application developers, etc) to develop analytics algorithms on the supply network that serve strategic objectives.
Example projects include:
* Applying machine learning to timeseries datasets to identify and forecast cost issues and opportunities
* Create optimization that algorithms that identify price arbitrage and other cost / sourcing opportunities.
* Exploring new analytic techniques to improve TCOS
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* M.S. or Ph.D. degree in data science, computer science, applied mathematics/statistics, analytics, operations research, or computational areas of physics, electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering
* 3+ years of work experience developing and deploying advanced algorithms on large datasets
TOP CANDIDATE WILL ALSO HAVE:
* Demonstrated expertise in Machine Learning/AI applied to data modeling and analysis
* Strong python programming skills (numpy, scipy, pandas, sklearn, etc.)
* Excellent presentation, communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
