Job Description

OVERVIEW

As a Product Engineer you will be responsible for leading product development and integration activities.

Your responsibilities include:

* Utilize engineering tools and processes to successfully develop components and system programs.

* Effectively achieve program milestones by thorough and rigorous program management.

* You will coach and lead suppliers to timely execution of program work with perfection.

* You will be responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.

* Perform engineering design evaluations. May develop a range of products.

The broad scope of responsibilities will include:

* Functioning as a hardware design release engineer for structural and thermal components including frames, sheet metal parts, application specific manifolds, heat exchanger and brackets. Components will have high complexity and/or change level.

* Managing interfaces to the fuel cell air, thermal, electrical and hydrogen subsystems.

* Providing technical direction for fuel cell system design and assembly, vehicle integration, and validation activities.

* High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Mechanical design representative during fuel cell system component and system design reviews

* Owns the component statement of requirements, component timing plan, issues, etc. and manages details when changes are required

* Lead Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing activities. Modify design based on build learnings.

* Management of physical interfaces-components integration

* Lead component PDT and represent GM-released components at subsystem PDTs, PAPIRs and PPDRs

* Support mass, cost and quality sufficiency plans

* Establish component and subsystem designs to meet program performance and timing requirements

* Confirm all designs meet requirements through analysis, development and validation processes (DFMEA, FEA, DFSS)

* Ensure design is compliant with Bill-of-Design, Bill-of-Material and Bill of Process

* Meet all MRD requirements

* Manage PRTS and IRT activities as required

* Travel as required to global locations

Additional Job Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or other engineering discipline

* 7+ years equivalent experience in hardware design, advanced conceptual product design, product and vehicle integration.

* Proficient in hardware best practices

* Proficient in applying mass and material properties to math models

* Ability to lead DFMEA, FEA, CFD or other analysis required for part integration into a complex air, thermal or hydrogen system

* Knowledge of drawing standards and GD&T

* Knowledge of GPDP, PPDRs and propulsion design review required deliverables

* Background in automotive system hardware engineering (design and/or release)

* Familiarity with design and release management processes and tools (ECR, PRTS, team center etc.)

* Must function well in engineering design team environment and have experience working with manufacturing engineering, and other global engineering teams

* Organized with strong attention to detail

* Ability to travel to global locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Master of Science in Mechanical or other engineering discipline

* Experience with fuel cell or propulsion products

* Experience working with global partners

* Experience managing math assemblies to support vehicle integration

* Knowledge of materials engineering

* Development or validation experience, including warranty or root cause analysis
