Job Description

In the Global Validation Automation group, the Software Engineer is an all-rounder, responsible and accountable for the development and delivery of high-quality software components to help validation teams automate their testing. This includes ownership activities, hands-on development, peer code reviews and testing on vehicle hardware.

The software engineer role in the automation group requires strong experience in software development utilizing various programming languages, commercial of the shelf and open source frameworks and technologies. Software developers will work independently and under the direction of development leads and contribute to all regular software development activities such as requirement gathering and analysis, design, implementation, testing and operations. The role requires extensive collaboration not only among the team members but also with the various functional groups within General Motors. As member of an automotive software validation automation group, the automation software developer is responsible for developing applications that use and/or interface with various automotive technologies, vehicle components and subsystems (e.g., OnStar telematics, Infotainments, Electrical components and subsystems, CAN/CAN-FD protocols, etc.).

JOB DUTIES:

* Leads and generates technical solutions including specifying of requirements, functional decomposition, analysis, development and testing for current, new and major programs
* Lead development of software system team design content and software anomaly corrections.
* Performs complex design analysis
* Specifies and balances system requirements
* Provide, communicate, and support common best practices among software community
* Performs as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for at least one platform or application component

Additional Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
* 5+ years of professional software development experience
* Proficiency in C or C++, and Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD), including architecture and development of Software Applications using Design Patterns
* implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance is preferred
* experience in SCM such as Git and TFS
* Hands-on experience with Microsoft Visual Studio IDE
* Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
* Experience in development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications
* Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning,
* Good understanding of serial data communications, security algorithms, TCP/IP

Preferred Qualifications:

* Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
* Strong experience in software development using one or more of the following languages, frameworks and database technologies: (1) C, C++, JavaScript, (2) .NET Framework, Spring-Framework, Angular, (3) ADO.NET, MS-SQL, MYSQL, ORACLE
* Prior experience with vehicle functions such as infotainment, telematics, active safety, etc.
* Experience with coding related to Vehicle Serial Data Communication such as CAN, CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet. Etc.
* Ability to convert business requirements into technical specifications and designs as well as estimate the amount of effort necessary to complete the tasks
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
* Experience with Vector and Intrepid vehicle software tools and hardware (e.g., CANoe, VSpy, etc.)
