In this challenging and dynamic role, you will have the opportunity to provide advice, counsel and guidance with respect to the broad range of legal and regulatory issues within our Individual Retirement business. We are seeking an experienced attorney well versed in the legal and regulatory issues impacting annuity products. This position will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Individual Retirement.

Here are the performance objectives for this position:

* You will be working on all aspects of legal support for annuities: product manufacturing including research and development, operations, marketing, and compliance with state and federal law. This includes drafting and review of insurance contracts filed with the state insurance departments. Additional activities will include support of all disclosure practices including advising traditional and digital marketing areas, producer and policy holder call centers, policy owner servicing and claims administration.
* The role includes general contract review, contract drafting and negotiation in relation to ordinary course transactions and business initiatives, drafting of policies and procedures in relation to corporate and business unit initiatives, support of state legislation tracking and related matters, and special projects.
* You will work collaboratively with peers across Legal, Compliance and other control functions to ensure philosophical consistencies of approach and practice across diverse business lines and legal entities.
* Maintain and grow in-depth knowledge of the business and its activities in order to ensure adequate legal oversight and resources as the business needs evolve over time; advise on emerging legal issues.
* Provide recommendations as to early dispute resolutions in an effort to avoid litigation.

What you need to know:

* Minimum of 8 years of experience as a lawyer in the life insurance/annuity or related industry, in house and/or private practice, a focus on annuities preferred including demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: product design and development; operations related to financial products (claims, new business, policyholder services, and underwriting); and the marketing/sales of life insurance products;
* Self-starter initiative with the ability to meet and exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment.
* Ability to work on matters requiring focus, attention to detail and execution.
* Proven problem-solving skills that demonstrate creativity and commitment to core values.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Proven ability to influence others with respect and integrity.
* Good business acumen.
* Demonstrated ability to balance thoughtful decision making with careful and timely execution.
* Excellent project management, organizational, written, verbal and presentation skills.
* Prior experience with a large multinational law firm and/or in-house legal department.
* B.A./B.S. and J.D.
* Admittance to at least one state bar.
