We are seeking an experienced Fan Design Engineer to drive the design and development of high-performance, active thermal management solutions such as fans and blowers. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of fan aerodynamics and turbomachinery design fundamentals, coupled with extensive experience across all aspects of fan hardware development including concept design, simulation and analysis, performance testing and validation, and manufacturing. Fan Design Engineer, FRL Responsibilities
* Own the design and development of high-performance airflow-based thermal solutions. This includes all relevant activities including concept generation, simulation and analysis, prototyping, high-volume manufacturing, performance testing, and validation
* Collaborate with your thermal and structural engineering teammates to establish solution requirements, explore complex physical interdependencies, and to optimize the performance of your designs to meet product operational and lifetime requirements
* Organize and lead design reviews, solution brainstorms, prototyping, production build support, and test and validation efforts
* Collaborate with internal and external engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing partners to optimize the design, performance, cost, and manufacturing of your solutions
* Drive failure analysis, root cause efforts, and design of experiments to resolve problems. Present results in a form actionable by cross-functional team members and leadership
* Advance team capabilities and performance through the development and implementation of new technologies, materials, and processes
Minimum Qualifications
* BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
* 3+ years of experience with the aerodynamic design of turbomachinery
* 3+ years of experience with CFD analysis of rotating machines and other flow-path systems
* 3+ years of experience designing for fluid flow, noise, and vibration
* 5+ years of experience with commercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools such as Star-CCM+, Icepak, Flotherm, FlothermXT, FloEFD, Fluent, CFX, Powerflow, Exa, Ultrafluid or equivalent
* 3+ years of experience in 3D modeling with Unigraphics, NX, Solidworks, Creo or Pro/E
* Experience with aerodynamics and acoustic experimental methods, instrumentation, and data analysis
* Experience with designing, building and testing thermal prototypes to validate analysis
* Adept at using a data-driven approach to analyze problems and deliver robust, optimized solutions
* Proficiency in engineering and physics-based first-principles
* Experience building relationships and working cross-functionally with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications
* Masters or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field, with an emphasis on aerodynamics and turbomachinery
* Experience with the development, prototyping, manufacturing, and validation of turbomachinery such as fans or blowers, with a preference for low-noise and high-pressure
* Experience with rotating machinery component design including turbines, impellers, housings, bearings, and seals
* Experience with acoustic simulation at a component or system level
* Experience with the use of MRF (Moving Reference Frames) for modeling fan behavior in FlothermXT, FloEFD, Icepak, etc.
* Experience with the generation and specification of PQ (Static Pressure vs. Volumetric Air Flow Rate) curves based on system thermal needs
* Experience architecting products around active, air-flow-based thermal solutions
* Experience completing hand calculations and second-order simulations (lumped capacitance, MATLAB, etc.)
* Experience with sourcing and managing China-based vendors remotely and in-person
* Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills
