Job Description

We are looking for an Applied Research Manager to lead a text-to-speech (TTS) team of research scientists and software engineers, with a focus on creating and shipping TTS voices for Facebook and pushing the state of the art in the field. The ideal candidate is an experienced manager with a proven track record of technical accomplishment, project management, and cross-functional collaboration, with a passion for speech technology and voice interfaces.

Applied Research Manager Responsibilities

* Manage a team of speech scientists and software engineers to design, build, and ship text-to-speech technology to fulfill current and future product requirements

* Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as linguists and sound designers

* Set technical direction and establish a research agenda leading to improved performance on Facebook use cases

* Recruit world-class talent and provide mentorship to team members

* Work closely with the broader speech team and product organizations to define and execute the long-term roadmap

* Be a subject matter expert able to hold your own in technical discussions and influence product strategy

Minimum Qualifications

* Graduate degree and 5+ years of hands-on experience in speech synthesis, speech recognition, audio signal processing, generative modeling or closely-related areas

* 2+ years of experience recruiting and managing a team of research scientists and/or software engineers, including performance management

* Experience taking ideas from research to production

* Knowledge of deep learning and neural networks

Preferred Qualifications

* Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

* Publication record

* Experience creating both server-based and embedded solutions
