Position Overview:
Within the Hand Tools & Storage Group division of Stanley Black & Decker we are currently looking for a Lab Technician to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to perform a wide range of testing to qualify and evaluate product performance. You will also consult with Engineering & Manufacturing personnel to resolve design or fabrication issues.

Major Responsibilities:

* Set-up, operate and monitor test equipment

* Inspect tested samples to determine acceptance or failure

* Record data and write concise technical reports

* Fabricate test fixtures for product qualification testing

* Assemble components, enclosures and wiring for test samples

* Build and/or repair assemblies for testing

* Utilize measurement instrumentation for product qualification testing

* Read and interpret blueprint drawings to inspect manufactured components

* Maintain test lab facilities and equipment

* Work closely with Design and Project Engineers

* Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

* High school diploma

* Minimum 3 years experience - 5 years preferred (hands on) in a manufacturing environment

* Good mechanical and/or electrical aptitude with familiarity of common hand tools (work experience, academic, or hobby)

* Attention to detail

* Experience working on PCs with Windows operating systems and a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook

* Good communications skills; written and oral

Preferred Qualifications:

* AS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology or other technical field

* Experience working on new product development projects

* Experience using Universal Test Machines

* General familiarity with materials - sheet steel, stainless and aluminum, structural steel angles, channels and tubing, steel bars and rods

* Basic machine shop skills (common hand tools, operation of drill presses, band saws, grinding tools, and welding)

* Experience with sheet metal fabrication including basic CNC programming

* Familiarity with wood working and wood construction

* Familiarity with safety standards/product liability

* Familiarity using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

* Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing concepts

* Willingness to travel to customer & other SBD sites as required

* Willingness to learn

* High energy
