Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Cornings summer internship experience is rich with hands-on learning. Youll live, work, and experience the communities in which Corning operates, while building on-the-job skills. As our intern, your work will entail the application of fundamentals of fluid mechanics, transport phenomena and process engineering to optical fiber manufacturing processes. You will also assist with the development of process models and analytical tools in support of development of improved products. You will have the opportunity to design experimental and measurement plans to validate modeling results and provide recommendations. We will expect you to be an active member of a cross-functional team and make meaningful contributions.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

* Develop analytical and modeling tools for solving optical fiber process engineering problems in manufacturing.
* Analyze results, along with development of experimental and measurement plans for validating results.
* Communicate results and recommendations to team members and key stakeholders.

The purpose of our Intern Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for our immediate and future needs.

To be considered for an internship at Corning Incorporated, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelors degree or higher.

You must also have a current cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 0.00 to 4.00 scale).

Travel Requirements (please note if international):

* The position would be based at Corning Research and Development Corporation Sullivan Park facility.
* Occasional travel to Corning's manufacturing facility may be required as needed.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

* 40 hrs/week
* Some flexibility available with start/end times
* Duration: Summer 2021, 8-12 weeks

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration)

* Enrolled in Graduate Level Engineering program: preference for Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field,
* Preference for candidate pursuing Ph. D. in areas of Fluid Mechanics or Transport Phenomena.
* Outstanding candidates with lesser experience but proven ability would also be considered.

* Strong background in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or related field
* Training in fluid mechanics, transport phenomena and process engineering.
* Strong process modeling and analytical skills.
* Ability to apply fundamentals to specific engineering problems in manufacturing and develop experimental plans.
* Results oriented
* Ability to build relationships, work in teams and interact with all levels of the organization

Desired Skills

* Previous experience working with homegrown or commercial fluid mechanics models and softwares and their application to real world problems.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
