Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

* Utilize engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects.
* Makes decisions based upon sound engineering and scientific methods.
* Actively participates within and beyond department boundaries to resolve important process and product issues.
* Enhance manufacturing capabilities through the implementation of new ideas and methods.
* Independently executes projects to fulfill department goals and objectives.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

* Provide problem solving support to production operations
* Manage the process, electrical and controls scope of process performance improvement (OEE), recipe management and small projects (Safety, Yield, Cost, Capacity).
* Provide Level 2 problem solving process and controls support for plant equipment.
* Work with engineering to develop equipment specifications/requirements and organize meetings with respective support groups to review proposals and quotes prior to purchasing
* Interface with operators, team leaders and peers to develop and implement process, controls, equipment, or safety improvements into manufacturing
* Develop maintenance and operator training and troubleshooting documentation
* Troubleshoot and address mechanical & controls issues including completing basic installations of components
* Assist in the commissioning and qualification of equipment
* Contribute to the development and execution of product qualification plans
* Create and justify spare parts lists
* Support master trainers with the training of production personnel on new equipment
* Document process procedures required to enable production to run equipment and products efficiently and within specifications
* Document calibration and configuration procedures required to allow production equipment to run efficiently within product specifications.
* Train maintenance and other support personnel to improve Level 1 troubleshooting skills plant wide.
* Support the transfer of new cabling technology, materials, or processes from development to production. Provide processing support during product development, develop plans as to how the equipment/processes will be employed into production and ensure that the new technology is repeatable in a production environment prior to transfer.
* Ensure all production and maintenance documentation is completed such as MI's, SOP's, PM's, calibration, and troubleshooting guides

Work Hours and Schedule:

* Nominal working hours are M F, 8 AM 5 PM.
* Informal 24/7 coverage for ad-hoc call-in support is required. (2nd Level Subject Matter Expert).

Travel: less than 2%

Education and Experience:

* High School or equivalent
* Technical degree desired
* 2+ years manufacturing experience working with PLCs / HMIs / VFDs controlling process and automation equipment.

Controls

* Must have experience in programming of Allen Bradley ControlLogix v20 systems and higher.
* Ability to generate, debug and modify PLC code ladder logic, structured text and function block diagram.
* Must have experience in programming of HMI / SCADA systems programming in a plant environment including higher level communications protocols Red Lion / GE IFIX experience desired.
* Ensure proactive safety measures for all equipment and processes. Seeks to identify and correct potential safety or environmental issues using NEC, NFPA, and other pertinent safety codes.
* Ensure safety procedures, such as Lock-Out Tag-Out, are followed at all times.
* Modify / generate electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical for systems changes including control panel layouts, component documentation, and schematics. Review electrical drawing packages for conformance to Corning standards.
* Strong fundamental understanding of 3 phase electrical systems, machine/motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, VFD and Servo programming, communication protocols, and practical application.
* Ability to reach fundamental understanding of controls issues utilizing sound troubleshooting skills.
* Capable of executing project assignments, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.
* Thoroughly carry out assignments to completion.

Desired Skills:

* Knowledge of legacy controls equipment, networks, and software.
* Experience with the OSI PI (historian) interface.
* Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of plastic extrusion/UV processing technologies
