Charged particle optics, electron and ion focusing columns, and high-brightness sources are at the heart of Thermo Fisher Scientific2019s Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), and DualBeam tools serving nanotechnology markets.
What will you do?
The Sources group is responsible for the initiation, design, development, execution and implementation of a wide range of high brightness ion and electron source development projects. Experiments typically involve the measurements of current2013voltage relationships, energy spread, brightness, lifetime, noise, stability and coherence. We are seeking an individual who will contribute long-term to our team's capabilities and expertise.
How will you get here?
Education/Experience:
* Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, engineering or computer science, or equivalent experience
* Taking ownership of experiments or system developments in line with the 5 years Sources roadmap
* Performing experiments with the objective of the development and characterization of high brightness ion and electron sources, or furthering fundamental understanding of sources
* Developing analysis and conclusions on experimental results
* Communicating research developments both to other AT teams and internal customers
* Developing and testing of new laboratory and instrument control software
* Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing laboratory equipment as necessary
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* An excellent grasp of fundamental physics and chemistry principles
* Proficient and 201Chands-on201D in the laboratory; performing experiments including working with standard electronics equipment, high voltage, ultrahigh vacuum equipment, and data acquisition systems
* Ability to troubleshoot equipment and implement solutions
* Data analysis skills, possibly automating computations on larger data sets
* Facility with software programming to run / automate experiments
* Experience with electron or ion sources including field emission sources, plasma, and liquid metal ion sources
* Experience with SEM and FIB systems
* Computer programming (C, C++ or similar)
* Development of computational physics simulation
* Electronics design and fabrication ability
* Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles including ability to create and work with drawings
* Experience mentoring and directing master2019s students in intern scientist position and/or post-docs
