The Role

IP NOC Engineers partner in a 24x7x365 team environment and provide technical expertise to manage and support Lumen's MPLS Internet Backbone. This candidate would be responsible for providing technical support on the team, troubleshooting IP routing and network complexities, gathering data on network performance, and performing hardware and software change activity to various routers. The candidate selected for this position will support the Lumen IP Data network that includes ~~~~ On-Fiber core Ethernet network supporting DIA, DSL, L2 Ethernet, VOIP and Hosting customers.

The Main Responsibilities

* Communicate with customers and other company teams in a repair situation
* Will perform on technical issues and effectively identify and resolve problems, provides input on network strategy, network reliability and ensures a high level of customer satisfaction.
* Partners and collaborates with others in the resolution of interoperability problems to maintain and enhance effective operations across all platforms
* Will perform high level trouble identification, interpretation of standards and will resolve and recommend fixes for complex internal network problems or issues.
* The position may also be called upon to periodically represent CenturyLink on National and International Standard Forums, providing technical expertise demonstrating CenturyLink's position as an industry leader and innovator.

What We Look For in a Candidate

* Conducting complex network monitoring of internal network circuits and network performance.
* Strong understanding of the OSI Networking model, especially physical, data link, and network layers.
* High level physical layer troubleshooting on circuits.
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
* 5 plus years of networking experience.
* Experience with Alcatel, Juniper, and/or Cisco routers and switches.
* Router vendor certifications recommended but not required.
* Experience working on complex IP issues.
* Knowledge of troubleshooting circuit degradation issues, including utilization, bandwidth and latency problems.
* A high degree of knowledge with IP routing on multiple router platforms.
* A high-level knowledge of IP networking and routing protocols: BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, OSPF.
* Experience with multiple router platforms including, but not limited to, Cisco, Juniper, Nortel Shasta and Alcatel-Lucent CLIs.
* Manage and correlate multiple trouble reports.
