This position is part of our Connected Services segment and is located in Allen Park, Michigan.

Summary:

The Systems Engineer is a critical member of the team responsible for the design, development, and functional verification of a best-in-class connected vehicle, telematics and data analytics platform. As a Systems Engineer, you will work to understand the state of the art in automotive systems, the connected vehicle marketplace, and the needs of our platform customers. You will research, design, and write requirements for our next generation data processing and reporting engines. Thousands of files sent to the cloud each day need to be processed into databases and files efficiently and ready for rapid consumption and data mining. Scalable systems need smart design to handle large volumes of data. Architecting efficient data schemas and processes so info is easy to query and available to our customer facing Web applications is the challenge.

Responsibilities and duties:

* Plan, architect and specify detailed systems engineering requirements for our next generation of cloud data solutions for efficiently parsing, processing, storing and querying millions of data files uploaded from all over the world.

* Architect and define data pipelines, warehousing big data in a manner that is scalable and modular.

* Optimally design database schema for efficient data manipulation.

* Coordinate meetings with our customer facing engineers, taking customer wants and effectively translate them into system designs and formal requirements ready to implement.

* Work with software engineering teams to prioritize tasks, estimate timing and plan sprint content.

* Steer software engineering teams on the optimum database and data lake solutions to optimize our ability to mine our data and generate needed reports to meet customer needs. Prepare to engage in proof-of-concept studies to determine best of breed solutions or prove out concepts in readiness for implementation.

* Act as the program manager to track the implementation of software features and ensure milestones are met.

* Oversee integration and test verification team members, ensuring completion of structured test plans for verification and user acceptance testing. Manage the failures in the form of bug tracking and corrective actions.

* Drive toward zero defect launches via continuous self-improvement of system requirements and of test cases in peer systems teams. Drive similar improvements in the development teams.

* Continue to stay current in server, database, query language, data mining, data science and machine learning technology.

* Work with data science counterparts to have a firm grasp of the data science algorithms for modeling, mining, acquisition and verification that will leverage the data solutions in the future, hence ensuring optimal design with an efficient use of resources.

* Research and discover new methods, modular system components and technologies to acquire and process data

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering / technical discipline.

* 5+ years experience in a software development or product management role.

* Experience producing detailed system requirements documentation, use cases, user stories and other artifacts for cloud-based services and applications.

* SQL query experience.

* Hands-on Experience desired with at least some of the following:

* Work within the automotive industry, with connected vehicles and vehicle diagnostics.

* BI reporting platforms (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).

* Statistical reporting

* Relational database design (mySQL, etc.), noSQL databases (Mongo, etc.), and/or data lakes design.

* Java, Go, React, Javascript, Python, R

* API design

* AWS or Azure Cloud services o Automotive communication networks (CAN, Automotive Ethernet, etc.) and vehicle diagnostic services (e.g. UDS).

* Strong written and oral communication skills. o Global working with diverse remote teams. o Agile software development processes and tools (Jira, GitHub, Kanban, Sprints)

* Data architecture for ingestion, networking, processing, and surfacing of data for large-scale applications ETL Tools

Desirable Requirements:

* Masters or PhD degree in Computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related degree programs.
