Job Description

W+D busines group has an immediate opening for an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager who will be responsible for independently providing comprehensive guidance worldwide on Environmental and Sustainability issues related to consumer electronic hardware. This position will help define and drive internal compliance and sustainability best practices through managing environmental requirements for consumer electronic products, packaging, and batteries.

The Environmental Compliance PM will be responsible for monitoring relevant worldwide legislation and environmental regulatory requirements and standards, assessing the impacts to Microsoft and communicate requirements to stakeholders through cross functional projects and specifications. This position will participate in hardware development projects ensuring products conform to Microsoft specifications and sustainability targets. This position is critical to Microsoft in establishing a national and international reputation for its global hardware compliance and implementing our sustainability strategy.

* Monitor worldwide environmental legislation and standards, analyzing and documenting the impact on product packaging, printed materials, and batteries
* Develop and maintain written environmental specifications for products, packaging and batteries including but not limited to markings, labeling, material use, substance restrictions, waste product and materials, and eco-design requirements
* Communicate environmental requirements to product teams and stakeholders
* Identify critical risks to deployment of a standardized sustainability framework, recommend, develop and implement solutions to mitigate those risks
* Regularly sync with other Microsoft businesses and other internal stakeholders across the hardware community
* Verify environmental requirements are implemented in product, packaging and batteries during product development projects, ensuring verification of conformance for products in the market
* Ensure environmental markings are placed on the products and packaging as required
* Create and deliver internal and external training regarding requirements and best practices
* Seek out, assess, and validate conformance of required product, packaging, and battery master data, bills of material and full material declarations
* Manage chemical testing and supplier audits for product, packaging and batteries to ensure compliance to Microsoft and legal requirements
* Create and deliver regulatory declarations to customers relevant to the portfolio
* Network with stakeholders to continually improve processes and specifications
* Establish a communication framework to educate and build awareness of sustainability internally and across the partner network, of Microsoft's continued impact and leadership towards a circular economy
* Actively seek and create opportunities for synergies across stakeholder groups to drive solutions and be proactive in identifying continuous improvement opportunities
* Participate in regional industry groups representing Microsoft
* Act as a leader to drive resulting initiatives
* Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Science or Engineering
* Three or more years of relevant job experience and understanding of worldwide environmental regulations for consumer electronics products, packaging, and batteries
* Good understanding of IT and consumer electronics industries
* Demonstrable program management skills, including ability to direct multiple programs
* Ability to work independently when required, and as part of a team
* Strong organization and communication skills
* Track record of being an enthusiastic and effective team player
* Very strong written and verbal communication skills
