The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division is seeking an Experienced Thermal Engineer (Level 3) to support the team in Puget Sound, WA. The position provides an opportunity to work with an experienced, interdisciplinary team to develop a unique system to meet challenging requirements on a dynamic development program. Along with this program the Puget Sound site supports a large portfolio of products including commercial airplanes, and military commercial derivatives.
The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:
The Experienced Thermal Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with other engineering teams and subsystem providers to create a fully integrated spacecraft design. This position will be responsible for spacecraft thermal design, modeling, analysis test planning, the selection of materials and processing. As an Experienced Thermal Engineer you will work with simulation teams to model thermal performance and integrate thermal models with other tools. This position requires sound technical judgment to make rapid decisions in a dynamic environment, and pulls from experience to create innovative solutions to challenging requirements.
Position Responsibilities:
* Create integrated spacecraft thermal design, working with suppliers and subsystem providers.
* Utilize thermal modeling tools to design and build spacecraft thermal model.
* Maintain and manage spacecraft thermal balance budgets.
* Support hardware developers in selection of materials, process and tests that comply with thermal design.
* Coordinate thermal interfaces between spacecraft subsystems.
* Support linking results and output of thermal models to other modeling and simulation software.
* Work under minimal direction.
Work Authorization:
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
* Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
* 5 years or more of experience with thermal design and modeling of aerospace platforms.
* 1 year or more of experience utilizing thermal modeling software (e.g. Thermal Desktop, IDEAS/TMG, MuSES, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
* Experience in space platform thermal design.
* Experience working directly with suppliers on thermal interfaces.
* Experience in develop of novel thermal designs and concepts.
* Experience exporting, analyzing, reporting and interfacing output of modeling software.
* SSBI (Single Scope Background Investigation) highly desired.
Typical Education and Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in computer science (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master +3 years ' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
