Engineering Team Lead - Structures and Project Management

Job Summary

The Engineering Team Leader Structures and Project Management reports to and works closely with the Engineering Manager to maximize productivity and quality, develop staffing, and improve processes.

This position is responsible for leading the Structures team in the design of GSI Structures products including Towers, Catwalks and other custom structures to support Engineer to Order (ETO) requirements as well as new product development requirements.

This position is also responsible for leading the project management team in supporting customer projects involving the integration of multiple GSI Products. Project support includes upfront scope, customer specification and RFP reviews, quote reviews, order management, general arrangement development, engineering and delivery schedule, and site installation and commissioning support and service.

Job Function and Responsibilities

* Lead Engineering to Order (ETO) planning and scheduling for configured and custom products for customer orders for Structures team.
* Lead Structures Team in ETO Continuous Improvement Activities to improve lead-time and quality.
* Lead and mentor team members, share new engineering insights, and promote a positive team environment
* Perform regular reviews of team members to drive individual performance improvement and align individual team member performance with business goals
* Work with Product Management and other functional areas to understand the Voice of the Customer, verify product requirements and cost targets.
* Work closely with Product Manager, Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, R&T, Technical Service, etc. to deliver product designs which meet business requirements
* Assist with Global GSI Structures Engineering requirements as required
* Define and manage project schedules, resource planning, and key milestone deliverables, including potential scheduling conflicts and delays, and coordinate work activities among internal and external team members
* Organize and lead project update presentations and design reviews
* Work alongside the Engineering Manager to develop and execute the long-term engineering strategy for GSI Structures and Project Management

Qualifications and Experience

* 6 to 10 years of experience of structural design/product engineering preferred
* Team leadership experience preferred
* Strong, positive influential leadership skills are required for planning and implementing projects, improving processes as well as strategic initiatives.
* Good verbal and written communication skills, along with highly organized work habits, are essential
* Strong time-management and creative problem-solving skills required
* Ability to work in a deadline oriented, fast paced, and flexible environment required
* Strong mechanical & technical aptitude with the ability to deliver innovative products and solutions required
* Knowledge and proficiency in International Building Code preferred
* Knowledge of RISA 3D Structural Engineering Software preferred
* Proficiency with AutoCAD preferred
* Experience with Design for Manufacturing for structural products preferred
* Experience in the Agricultural Industry preferred
* Strong project management skills, including building project schedules, resourcing, tracking, and reporting status required
* Proven, strong work ethic required
* Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required
* Strong business acumen required

Education

BS in Civil, Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering, or a related technical field required.
