U. S. Steel's Minnesota Ore Operations includes two open pit mines and processing facilities in Northern MN (Minntac in Mt. Iron and Keetac in Keewatin) and has the following vacancy at the Minntac facility:

CONCENTRATOR MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE SHIFT MANAGER: This position reports directly to the Area Manager of the Concentrator. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, supervising mechanical maintenance crews, planning and carrying out maintenance projects and tasks, and conducting safety meetings and activities in the Plant Maintenance Department. The Plant Maintenance Department is responsible for maintaining all equipment in the Concentrator. The candidate will coordinate a variety of mechanical maintenance assignments with the crews including the maintenance of grinding mills, pumps, pipelines, conveyor systems, chutes, bins, and other large processing mechanical systems and have the ability to recognize potential problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner. The candidate will work with a team troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading mechanical systems to improve equipment reliability. The candidate must be willing to utilize concepts such as CMMS and preventive/predictive maintenance to assure success of the maintenance program and be willing to work closely with peers and outside vendors to assure lowest cost and highest quality of maintenance related equipment. This position is also responsible for administering the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.

The position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering field or technical college degree plus two or more years of supervisory experience in a production environment, however, candidates with related education and experience that is transferable are encouraged to apply. In addition, the successful candidate must be independent and have the ability to make sound operating and mechanical decisions with little input from other managers. The preferred candidate will be knowledgeable in mechanical maintenance of equipment used in the taconite mining process as well as have a strong mechanical background relating to repair of heavy industrial equipment.

All successful candidates are subject to background checks, pre-employment physical examinations, and drug and alcohol screening.
