What Youll Do
The Senior Product Engineer- Retail Metal Storage will be an active member of the Retail Metal Storage team responsible developing and analyzing product designs throughout the product lifecycle while overseeing the work of Product Engineers and Designers. This individual will work with Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, Sourcing Managers, and Manufacturing Engineers to develop product designs from the ground up or using existing products as reference. The individual will manage design projects, conduct DFMEAs, prepare test plans (DVP&Rs), review test reports, prepare project schedules, and conduct gate reviews as part of SBDs NPD process. In addition, the individual will support released product by assisting operations with questions and design revisions, as well as protecting margins through design enhancements. The Senior Product Engineer- Retail Metal Storage can work with minimal oversight on complex design issues yet collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the most efficient design solution is selected. The ideal candidate has a desire to advance into an Engineering Management role.

Product Design:

* Create new product designs using input from Product Management and Operations using Solidworks and release in DDM. When needed, work with Designers to complete the CAD work and check drawings.
* Generate engineering BOMs using Plex/SAP and work with the costing engineer and Operations to generate accurate product costings.
* Follow a formal NPD and APQP process to ensure designs meet the required specifications and safety requirements.
* Work with Operations to solve design issues related to manufacturing and release design changes using the ECR/ECN process.
* Ensure a robust design by leading DFMEAs to uncover design risk and use them to generate DVP&Rs.
* Conduct engineering design reviews and prepare documentation and presentations as necessary.
* Work with outside resources to conduct FEA and oversee their work to ensure it is accurate.
* Generate engineering calculations as required and select materials that will withstand the environmental stresses imposed on them.
* Author test procedures, design specifications, and engineering procedures. Review existing test procedures and make improvement recommendations using industry accepted test methods and sound engineering principles.

Project Management:

* Create project schedules using Smartsheet and ensure projects are released on time using SBDs NPD process.
* Lead milestone reviews and follow up with cross functional teams to ensure project deliverables are complete and to specification.

Education and Experience

* ABET Accredited Bachelors degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering.
* A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience preferably focusing on the design and/or manufacturing of mechanical products (particularly with a DFM focus)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Advanced experience in Microsoft Excel (macro, pivots, etc) and Microsoft Access or SQL
* 5000+ hrs of 3D solid modeling experience and drawing creation, Solidworks preferred.
* Experience in product teardowns and/or VAVEs
* Strong quantitative and analytical skills
* Experience with lean manufacturing and effects of manufacturing costs that are driven by product design
* Project management capability. Ability to drive and implement medium to larger scale projects. PMP a strong plus
* Strong hands on capabilities
* Experience in CAD and PLM (Product Lifecycle Management software)
