Job Description
The Food Safety Technician supports the Food Safety and Sanitation initiatives for the facility and is primarily responsible for overseeing the Environmental Monitoring Program.
Essential Functions
* Oversee and maintain Environmental Program
* Perform microbial sampling throughout facility
* Coordinate with outside laboratories for microbial sample processing
* Perform time-sensitive finished product and environmental sampling
* Assist and support the food safety team
* Assist and support Integrated Pest Management
* Monitor and order micro-lab supplies and inventory. Maintain and calibrate micro-lab equipment
* Assist in developing, writing, and maintaining food safety procedures and sanitation SOP's
* Assist with plant inspections and internal audits and enter work requests as needed
* Provide training and instruction in food safety methods and equipment
* Assist and complete additional tasks as directed
Skills and Knowledge
* High school diploma or GED required
* Undergraduate degree in biological science, animal science, life science or equivalent preferred
* Prior laboratory experience required, preferably in a food manufacturing environment
* Prior manufacturing, food safety or quality experience required
* Knowledge and experience with aseptic sampling and micro plating techniques is preferred
* Ability to organize and execute several responsibilities taking place simultaneously through establishment of priorities, action plans, and calculations of risk and re-assessment
* Must possess strong diagnostic skills for performing Rood Cause Analysis
* Must have willingness to make decisions, act upon them, and accept accountability
* Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment as well as independently
* Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint) required
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
* Must possess basic safety knowledge, including proper lifting techniques. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds
