The UHC Medicare and Retirement Healthcare Economics team influences decision making for the Medicare and Retirement line of business through data analysis. The primary focus of the team is to identify, analyze, and explain medical trends. As the Healthcare Economics Consultant, you will build and manipulate complex claims datasets to investigate root causes of medical trends. With those root causes identified, you will further drive innovation by creating and maintaining flexible, Excel-based tools intended to support the ongoing identification of trend drivers and affordability opportunities.

You will be asked to provide answers to difficult analytical questions, relying on your own data investigation work and judgment.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Identify, analyze, and explain Medicare medical trends using claims-based analyses

* Construct polished MS Excel models to satisfy analytical requests

* Use SAS / SQL to construct claims-based datasets

* Apply strong critical thinking skills in order to anticipate questions from key stakeholders and consider all aspects of an analysis before completion

* Provide ongoing, meaningful communications to managers on project status, results and conclusions from analysis

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree

* 2+ years of applicable experience in data analytics

* 1+ years of healthcare claims analytics experience

* Exposed to a wide variety of topics across multiple business functions

* Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Excel (practical experience working with pivot tables, advanced formulas, graphs, vlookups)

* Basic level of proficiency with SAS and/or SQL

* Passion for driving value and the ability to think in an innovative manner

* If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas. In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders
