Job Description
Position Summary
Reporting to the Semiconductor Sr. Business Unit Director, this position is responsible for managing a cross-functional engineering team and budget to achieve new product development objectives for Brooks flow measurement and control product families. The Engineering Director, in close coordination with product marketing, is responsible for executing ITWs Customer Back Innovation process to gather customer input and release new products that address customer pain points with realizable value. In addition, the Engineering Director participates in defining and pursuing the Technology roadmap. He / She must also work collaboratively with the Brooks functional leaders and their respective teams to strengthen the develop process for products and services, set manufacturing strategies, and align resources to achieve shared objectives. They must also utilize the ITW management and continuous improvement toolbox and principles to introduce organizational initiatives aimed at promoting process simplification and targeted business focus.
Essential Functions / Key Focus Areas
* Manage a group of cross-functional contributors to support new product development initiatives
* Creates and enforces standard practices for project management
* Ensure engineering resources are aligned to effectively support assigned projects
* Works closely with business unit leaders and product managers to establish project priorities
* Communicate regularly with executive team and business unit leaders on development project status, including schedule, budget, risks, and mitigation plans
* Supports leadership team in budget planning and forecasting for Annual and Long-Range Plans
* Participates in the research and analysis of data such as design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application while adhering to project timing
* Researches and provides feedback to business leaders on promising areas of research or technology that address current needs and have larger potential markets
* Utilizes originality, ingenuity, and creativity to manage complex and large scope projects
* Generate and manage the engineering budget
* Develop customer intimacy, understanding their needs, and communicate at the appropriate level of the varying degrees of technical knowledge
* Keep abreast of competitive activity to understand and enhance the business units position in the marketplace
* Attract, develop, and retain talent within the engineering group to ensure the competency level of all employees is sufficient to be fully effective in their roles
* Coordinate with the global functional teams in the business to ensure cross functional and cross geographic cooperation
* Support company continual improvement initiatives
* Stay abreast of market and business trends impacting the semiconductor equipment business
* Network with counterparts at other ITW businesses to understand engineering best practices and integrate this knowledge gained into work practices
* Anticipate and react to major changes to ensure market competitiveness

Qualifications
Ideal Experience
Professional Experience Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience of which at least 5 years have been in progressively responsible engineering leadership roles. Experience in Global 500 companies as well as smaller organizations is desirable.
Functional Experience Technical leader with a track record of building high performing teams, streamlining new product development processes, leading cross-functional groups, and successfully interfacing with a cross-section of functional groups. Familiarity with the ITW 80/20 concepts desirable.
Industry Experience Experience working for a manufacturing business supporting semiconductor customers will be highly valued. Some level of exposure to flow & pressure measurement & control desirable.
Education: A bachelors degree in engineering and / or related technical field required. A masters degree in an engineering discipline and / or an MBA preferred.
