Job Description Summary
Primary purpose is to provide technical leadership and deep functional expertise in the execution of Commercial Product Performance Management as part of small market and middle market commercial strategies for Nationwide. Responsible for supporting the strategic direction, building acumen and capabilities and then growing the Commercial Product Performance Management capabilities. Accountable for philosophical alignment, strategic vision, and the hiring and development of talent while providing industry expertise and a specialist reputation for Nationwide. Strong interface with CL Underwriting, CL Product Management, CL Pricing and CL Analytics as well as Loss Control Services and Claims.
Job Description
Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, Underwriting & Product - CL. May be responsible for approximately 5 direct reports and 10 indirect reports.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provides thought leadership and direction for the overarching strategy required to be successful as an Enterprise in Commercial Business. Builds and executes a strategic plan for the Performance and Product responsibilities, in alignment with Small Commercial and Middle Market underwriting and overall performance objectives.
* Responsible for the development and implementation of a centralized staff Analytics team, which supports the business or field operations. The team reporting to the role will be responsible for council to the field relative to underwriting, pricing, rates, procedures, policies, forms and compliance for accounts of the most complex nature.
* Partners with Automation team to enable enhancements regarding Nationwides processes to more efficiently serve our distribution partners while minimizing underwriting cost. Ensures automated solutions are in alignment with commercial portfolio strategies, and that automated solutions increasingly are the standard method for underwriting small commercial.
* Leverages industry trends as a subject matter expert and influences the Enterprise with this information. Ensures the ability to understand the results from an overall financial perspective, which is grounded with bench marking data from the market. Guides the organization relative to setting in motion a team of multi-disciplinary experts who, regardless of where they report, have clearly aligned objectives with measures and accountability to achieve the desired result.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in Business, Economics, Actuarial Science, Finance or other related discipline plus advanced studies preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: CPCU or other industry designation preferred or equivalent.
Experience: 15 + years previous Commercial P&C experience, including product/underwriting, pricing, claims desired.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring managers leader and HR Business Partner.
