Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position: Supervisory responsibilities for cable operations. The typical position will have supervisory responsibility for 30-40 hourly associates and 2-3 operations coordinators. The process oversight will include Ribboning, IPOT, Buffering, Jacketing and Final QC processes with periodic warehouse interactions. As a Team Leader, this role will be instrumental at establishing cultural norms for the operation relative to work practices, environmental cleanliness, and compliance to policies and procedures. This position will report into the Newton Cable Plant, Operations Manager.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

* Directly responsible for their shifts safe completion and performance of tasks in a safe manner in accordance to documented procedures and stated personal protective equipment. Is responsible for his/her safety, and upholding expectations for a safe work environment for every employee, whether working or visiting. Is responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive for reporting and resolving any unsafe conditions
* Responsible for the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet or exceed production goals, quality, cost and delivery objectives.
* Work with trainers to ensure employees are developed and accountable for their individual and team performance. Create a work environment that is challenging and meaningful. Recognize and reward high performance
* Encourage and develop an environment of constant, open, honest communication. Develop employee involvement to ensure every employee is a partner in the business through kaizen submissions and completions.
* Prioritize and manage production schedules based on optimized efficiencies, promised delivery, and equipment efficiency & materials supply
* Adjust staffing and machine assignments to achieve optimal product flow and capacity
* Develop and manage training plans for operators and support personnel for the team. Insure all employees are continually provided with appropriate job-related training and project exposure
* Achieve and maintain world class housekeeping and product flow standards to meet or exceed internal 5S standards
* Manage employee time and attendance for timely and accurate payroll processing
* Lead, coach and participate on teams to accomplish individual, department and divisional objectives. Objectives may include quality improvements, operating expenses, inventory targets, production goals, equipment run time, and on-time shipments
* Understand cost drivers and manage to lowest cost / highest output impact decisions of team, inclusive of overtime, and labor (staffing)

Projects involved with:

* Lead projects that have either direct impact on hourly staffing levels or improvement of product flow through various process areas
* Support development Lean project teams that introduce significant new products or processes into the area
* Participate in the Team Leader Continuous Improvement Team to improve overall plant operations.
* Develop and document procedure revisions for assigned areas
* Implement procedures in all production functions to meet and maintain ISO standards
* Identify areas of inefficient operation and implement improvements
* Utilize capacity models to develop staffing and production plans
* Identify production bottlenecks and manage resources to exploit the bottleneck
* Investigate and implement assigned

Corrective Actions:

* Reduce process variation and improve production yield

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 24 hour / 7-day schedule with a shift assignment to Night Shift.

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%. Periodic travel to Hickory plant (approx. 10 miles)

Required Experience & Education:

* Bachelor of Science
* Computer skills Microsoft Office Suite
* 1-3 years work experience in a manufacturing environment
* Ability to work in a time-sensitive, fast-paced environment with increased level of changes

Desired Experience & Education:

* Engineering, Technology, Business or Physical sciences centered-degree
* 2-3 years previous supervisory experience
* Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization
* Problem solving and root cause analysis skills
