Job Description
CDM Smith is seeking an Automation Engineer who is a proven self-starter and mentor in the industry. As a member of our Cleveland team, this Automation Engineer will contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
Independently developing solutions for automation engineering and SCADA projects with senior level oversight and guidance. This role requires an individual who is passionate about Process Control Systems, Networks, Instrumentation, programming and design with a desire to further enhance their skills and our practice.
Strong communication skills both verbally and written with ability to communicate to a diverse team and client base with varying skills that is geographically dispersed.
Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments to meet schedules and budgets.
With general direction, creates basic to moderately complex instrumentation and control system designs by developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;), control system architectures, specifications and control descriptions.
Experience with programming of SCADA systems which includes some, if not all of the following: PLC packages (Rockwell Studio 5000 and Schneider Electric Unity), HMI packages (GE iFix, Rockwell FactoryTalk, and AVEVA InTouch for System Platform), configuration of SCADA servers, workstations, network and server configuration, wireless communication systems (i.e. cellular, radio, Wi-Fi), and development of SCADA reports (Dream Reports, XL Reporter, or Hach WIMS).
Prepares preliminary design reports (PDRs) under limited supervision. Coordinates design reconciliation with clients.
Reviews basic to moderately complex level shop drawings consisting of control system components and panel wiring diagrams.
Provides responses to contractor requests for information (RFIs) under supervision.
Performs field acceptance testing (FATs) and field inspections.
Prepares project budgets and construction cost estimates.
Responsible for testing and startup documentation completion and quality assurance filing. Independently develops basic to highly complex Operations & Maintenance manuals for designed instrumentation, controls and related systems.
Independently develops system training for end users.
Under general supervision, prepares proposal sections and client presentations.
Ability to travel to project sites for client meetings, control system troubleshooting, and start-up of control systems within the region. Leads testing and startup team for basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls and related systems independently with minimal supervision.
Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.
Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
5 years of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
