Job Description
This is an opportunity in a high growth area of emerging Global Regulatory Fuel Economy and CO2 reduction requirements. Seeking highly motivated candidates that are passionate about driving global alignment of large cross functional initiatives to bringing new technology into product development. The successful candidate will need to possess creativity, initiative and a high level of independent judgment. Candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:
* Technical project management of Electric Power team innovated game changing technologies such as Lego BMS (Individually replaceable Li-Ion cell pack and Battery Monitoring System), Smart Electrical Center and affordable Energy Harvesting
* Work with Technical Project Managers and Technical Development Teams at Suppliers and Licensee Partners to coordinate efficient development and release of our teams patented innovations
* Support the development of future strategy and roadmaps in related areas
* Support the development, implementation and evaluation of new power switching technologies as appropriate
* Managing supplier timing; running supplier meetings and action plans to ensure the readiness of new technology products for the earliest introduction in GM product
* Develop SODWs and high-level technical specifications
* Create Interface Control Design (ICD) strategy and ICD templates
* Develop technical specifications for power switching systems based on 12/48 V systems requirements
* Responsible for development, execution and evaluation of designs (including subsystems), analysis, development & testing related to power switching, 12/48V energy storage and recovery systems
* Review all In-process Electrical test plans
* Work with the Purchasing organization to assess supplier capabilities
* Stay abreast of advanced power switching technologies and competitive products to achieve low cost and efficient designs
* Strong interest in Intellectual Property creation and realization.
* Maintain state of the art knowledge of methods for electromagnetic, thermal and durability analysis and testing of power switching systems
* Travel as required
Required Qualifications
* BSEE required, MSEE preferred
* Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with automotive components; 4+ years strongly preferred
* Experience developing and managing schedules and driving cross-functional collaboration across global teams is essential.
* Proven capability driving action plans, burn down lists and managing fast moving projects using leading project management methodologies is strongly desired.
* High level understanding of Automotive Safety Integrity Levels and their application to 12V power system design and integration
* High level of competence in writing and comprehending software requirements
* Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN, GMLAN, LIN,) and electrical architectures (Class 2, Common Architecture, Global A, and Global B)
* Good knowledge of product design and development cycles GVDP (Global Vehicle Development Process)
* Good understanding of semiconductor sub-system and PCB design flows
* High level knowledge of automotive sub-systems requiring ASIL rated Power
* Ability to read system engineering schematics and understand electronic / electrical functionality
* Experience in troubleshooting software anomalies using software development tools (including data capture and analysis).
* Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
* Working knowledge of automotive component and system level test plans, including EMC testing.
* High level understanding of hardware and software design and failure modes in electronic modules
* Experienced in performing system, sub-system, software, and component level DFMEAs
* Ability to work independently and learn new technology areas without formal instruction
* In-depth knowledge of electrical circuit design and operating principles and performance characteristics of high-power switching devices and energy density capacitors for automotive applications
* Results driven individual with high levels of initiative and proactivity
* High level of oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
* Communicate ideas, plans, and results effectively via presentations and written reports
* Work effectively with peers, management, operations groups, personnel, and outside organizations
* High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
* This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle on a daily basis
Additional Basic Preferred Qualifications
* Knowledge of energy storage design principles and system integration
* Knowledge related to power electronics for voltage regulation, cell balancing and energy storage system safety tests
* Knowledge of design for manufacturability and low-cost manufacturing of electrical devices
