PPG Architectural Coatings has an opportunity for a Product Development Chemist with the Quality Initiatives Team! If you are passionate about solving problems and working on a variety of projects, this may be the opportunity for you!
As a Product Development Chemist, you will be involved in paint formulation and the performance of all types of tests and investigations in connection with raw material and packaging evaluations, problem-solving, new and existing products and processes, and technology transfer of products and processes between R&D and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct lab bench work and will be responsible for conducting experiments, formulating paints, evaluating raw materials, packaging, and substrates, and performing of all types of tests and investigations in connection with paint, raw material, and packaging of new and existing products and processes.
* Problem-solving, maintenance of existing products, plant issues, and product stewardship and preservation are in the scope of responsibility.
* May be required to utilize or develop new methods, processes, or procedures requiring originality, ingenuity, and resourcefulness.
* Influence and delegate activities with team member technicians or contractors in the course of a project.
Qualifications:
* B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent scientific degree required.
* 3 years minimum of experience in a coatings formulation laboratory or plant setting required.
* Good working knowledge of coatings formulation practices and familiarity with latex, solvent, and/or reactive technology platforms, as well as, related knowledge of polymers, pigments, solvents, additives, and performance test methods strongly desired.
* Familiarity with lab and production scale processing equipment, as well as process oriented and problem-solving skills is essential for success.
* Ability to demonstrate: good attention to detail, good organizational, written and verbal communication skills, ability to manage multiple projects, ability to analyze data and make sound decisions, and show initiative and efficiency in driving projects to success.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in particular) is required. Strong Excel skills and the ability make professional level presentations is desired.
* Knowledge of architectural coatings, and/or SAP is a plus.
