Role Description
The Indirect Tax Supervisor NAR is responsible for the management of all aspects of property tax and sales/use tax, including compliance and audit support for United States and Canada. The position is located at Eastmans worldwide headquarters in Kingsport, TN.
The position requires the management and mentorship of staff and will also include managing indirect tax project work as required on a variety of tax technology, business advisory, transactional tax data, and tax research and analysis projects. Important to this role is a permanent and active search of opportunities and value for the Eastman organization, contributing to the overall success of the Tax department. A critical and continuous process improvement mind set is essential, challenging the status quo to deliver value and to identify risk areas where controls or other mitigating measures need to be in place.
A successful candidate will bring in-depth technical knowledge and experience in Indirect Tax and be an individual who can work independently with minimal guidance. The Indirect Tax Supervisor researches, analyzes, and interprets tax regulations particularly in the Sales and Use Tax and Property Tax areas and determines how the regulatory changes apply to Eastman businesses. A highly qualified candidate provides internal advice and recommends solutions and best practices while balancing business needs with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
* Ensure all returns and tasks are completed timely while assisting the team with issue resolution and prioritization of assignments.
* Search for efficiencies in the reporting area and support the department in the digitization journey. Ensure technology learning and daily use by Analysts.
* Prepare and submit complex tax returns and any other relevant documents to local tax authorities as well as review work prepared by analysts.
* Maintain knowledge of indirect tax laws and ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Analyze and communicate the impact for Eastman businesses.
* Identify indirect tax risk and develop recommendations for mitigation.
* Share and transfer knowledge and skills to the team and work on their professional development.
* Address sales and use tax inquiries from internal business partners as well as external customers.
* Answer queries from tax authorities and lead the Audit Defense.
* Execute internal controls and maintain the Indirect Tax Control Framework.
Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in Tax, Finance, or Accounting is required (Masters degree in taxation or similar degree is preferred)
* Minimum 10 years of experience in the Indirect Tax area in a multinational or Big4 firm is required
* Experience with refund reviews/analysis, nexus analysis, direct pay permit review, optimization, exposure analysis and remediation, and audit defense is required
* Proven success in department transformations, streamlining processes, and working with offshore teams is required
* Supervisory experience is required
* Strong collaboration skills and ability to lead and work with cross-functional teams
* Experience with indirect tax setup in systems, including ERP systems and indirect tax code determination software
