The Controllers Finance Discipline
The Citi Controller and Chief Accounting Officer are responsible for the integrity and control of Citi's financial books and records as well as the process by which reports are generated. This includes corporate/regulatory reporting, management reporting, legal entity management and capitalization, balance sheet integrity and ensuring that franchise needs remain in focus. The Controller's group also focuses on strengthening the independent controls and the control environment throughout the company to support the businesses in their efforts to grow responsibly. The group is divided into several global units of specialization that include both accounting and analytical roles. These units include: Legal Entity Management, Corporate/Regulatory Reporting, Accounting Policy, Finance Business Architecture, Internal Controls (MCA, Sarbanes Oxley, FDICIA, Audit monitoring), Corporate Insurance and Risk Management, and Finance Initiatives.
The SEC Reporting and Legal Entity Management Team
The SEC Reporting Group is responsible for Citigroup's Earnings Releases, 10-Qs, Annual Report / 10-K. SEC Reporting is also responsible for the Citibank N.A. Audited Financial Statements and Notes, Citi's Accounting Policy Manual, Financial Close and New Accounting pronouncement implementations and financial systems migrations and structure.
Citigroup is made up of thousands of legal entities across the world. The Legal Entity Management Team oversees the process for the collection and maintenance of information necessary to support Citis regulatory and financial reporting as well as supporting fiduciary responsibilities related to the governance of legal entities. The team focuses on the lifecycle of all of Citis legal entities, including majority- and wholly-owned subsidiaries, minority investments, and special purpose entities. Its general objectives include enhancing governance, processes, controls, referential data, and enabling systems related to the lifecycle of a legal entity.
Job Description
The Finance Reporting Senior Analyst is responsible for driving the generation, analysis, and submission of reports to various constituencies based on requirements such as US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), US Regulatory, and local statutory reporting, in coordination with the broader Financial Reporting Team. The overall objective is to apply in-depth disciplinary knowledge to contribute to directional strategy.
This Buffalo, New York based role is part of the SEC Reporting Group which is responsible for Citigroup's Earnings Releases, 10-Qs, and Annual Report / 10-K. SEC Reporting is also responsible for Citibank N.A. Audited Financial Reporting, Citi's Accounting Policy Manual, Financial Close, and New Accounting Pronouncement implementations.
This position will be involved in the Monthly Restrictions and WIPs, Deposits, Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Investments, Risk Analysis, Corporate Credit, analysis, Corporate Loans, Average Balance Sheet, Goodwill & Intangibles, Guarantees, the related financial monthly closes, and Fair Value Reporting among other reports and filings. This position works alongside the Legal Entity Management Team; involvement with legal entity management may include legal entity monitoring and rationalization, legal entity data analytics, process oversight, and management and regulatory progress reporting.
The qualifications for this candidate include financial reporting or public accounting experience, strong finance and analytical skills, and a CPA license preferred (but not required). The role requires flexibility with hours and assignments to accommodate the requirements of the SEC's reporting calendar as well as the Firms financial deliverables.
The individual should possess excellent leadership skills and the ability to work independently, communicate clearly with colleagues across multiple teams, and be comfortable presenting to senior management.
Responsibilities:
Support the analysis and submission of reports to various constituencies (local regulators, SEC, Fed, OCC, etc.) based on requirements such as US GAAP, US Regulatory, and local statutory reporting
Assist with closing the books and sub-ledgers, including passing appropriate required adjustment entries and consolidating financials at the end of each accounting period
Instill operational discipline into existing team processes
Work with senior leadership on strategic planning, establishing guidelines, implementing controls, and executing strategic plans
Mentor and advise on directional strategy by analyzing subject matter and its application within role and the business
Serve as a technical mentor for an area within the business
Build and maintain a thorough understanding of related reporting and analytics and utilize knowledge of systems and process flows to provide insight and recommendations on identified issues
Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications:
3-6 years of experience in Financial Services preferred
Undergraduate degree is required, preferably in finance or accounting
Licensed CPA preferred (not required)
Previous financial reporting or public accounting experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to work across functional areas
Able to communicate effectively and efficiently in both written and oral form
Willingness to take ownership over their responsibilities
Detail oriented but can provide vision and direction for the big picture
Strong Excel, PowerPoint and Word knowledge
Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines or unexpected changes in expectations or requirements
Proven organizational and time management skills
Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills
Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
Education:
Bachelors Degree/University degree or equivalent experience
